Manhattan Defeats Men's Basketball in MAAC Play

The Red Foxes Drop Third Consecutive Conference Loss to the Jaspers

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team dropped its third consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game, losing to the Manhattan Jaspers, 72-66, Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes fall to 8-12 overall and 3-8 in MAAC play. The Jaspers are now 11-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

  • Marist took an early lead, 7-0. With 11:04 remaining in the half, Manhattan gained its first lead of the game,14-13.
  • The Jasper's maintained their lead for the remainder of the half. A Jao Ituka layup to end the half cut the Manhattan lead to a basket. Jaspers entered the break leading by a score of 34-32.
  • Marist shot 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from the field and 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) from three for the half. Manhattan shot 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) from the field and 4-of-8 (50.0 percent) from three in the first.
  • After a quick second half timeout for Marist with 17:13 remaining, the Red Foxes came out strong with a 5-0 run to again cut Manhattan's lead to a basket.

  • Marist continued to fight to regain the lead but could not pull ahead as the Jaspers would hold on for the 72-66 win.

  • For the fourth time this season, Jao Ituka collected 20+ points, finishing with 21.
  • Marist had three players in double digits, Ituka (21), Ricardo Wright (19), Jordan Jones (10).
  • Wright notched 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Matt Herasme led the team with seven rebounds.
  • For the second half, Marist outshot Manhattan, 53.8 percent to 46.7 percent.
  • For the game, the Red Foxes shot 27-of-50 (54.0 percent) from the field and 7-of-18 (38.9 percent) from three. The Jaspers shot 28-of-54 (51.9 percent) from the field and 7-of-19 (36.8 percent) from three for the game.
  • Manhattan was led by Jose Perez with 29 points. Manhattan had three players scoring in double figures, Perez (29), Ant Nelson (16), Elijah Buchanan (11).
