NEW HAVEN, Connecticut -Â The Marist men's tennis team, led by grad student
Christian Mills, completed a successful three days of play at this weekend's Yale Invite, which was held at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center on the Yale campus Oct. 28-30. Mills, who registered three wins, led a contingent of four men's players, including
Dylan Friedman,
Tomas Gomez and
Alex Thompson, who all tasted victory in posting multiple wins in both singles and doubles.
Â
Mills capped an outstanding fall campaign with singles wins over Boston College and Quinnipiac, a doubles win with partner Friedman over NJIT, and was co-champion of his consolation bracket with Gomez. Tomas registered an impressive quarterfinal upset win over Yale in singles and then teamed with Thompson to overtake Fairfield in doubles play.
Â
Freshman Thompson continued his outstanding play in his first semester of collegiate action with a singles win versus Brown, a doubles win against Fairfield and making it to the finals of his consolation bracket, where he had to bow out due to injury.
Â
"We had some very high quality wins, and Christian capped off the weekend with a gut check 7-5, 7-5 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday. There were also several instances where we had control of the match in both singles and doubles and couldn't close it out, which is an excellent teaching lesson to be learned  from the weekend. Overall, it was a positive conclusion to the fall season."
