Women’s Basketball Heads to Columbia

Red Foxes Look to Continue Win Streak Thursday Night

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The women's basketball team will begin a five-game road trip starting with a trip to New York, NY to play Columbia on Thursday, Dec. 1.  The Red Foxes will look for their fourth consecutive win against the Lions.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Red Foxes defeated the Lafayette Leopards 52-42 for their third straight victory.
  • Marist shot 83 percent from the charity stripe in the first quarter.
  • Zaria Shazer got the scoring started in the second quarter with a layup.
  • The second quarter went back and forth with multiple lead changes. A total of 12 lead changes occurred in the first half.
  • Marist led Lafayette at halftime 25-24. The Red Foxes shot 9-for-11 from the free-throw line in the first half.
  • The Red Foxes defense forced nine turnovers in the first half.
  • Maeve Donnelly hit a jumper to start the second half scoring, putting Marist up 27-24.
  • Jackie Piddock set a new career-high in points against Lafayette. Piddock scored 12 points on 4-6 shooting from the field.
  • Zaria Shazer led the team with 14 rebounds, which was a season high. Shazer also led the team in assists with four and scored eight points in the contest.
  • Maeve Donnelly scored nine points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field.
  • The Marist defense forced 23 turnovers in the contest. Marist defense held Lafayette to 25.8 percent shooting in the game.
     
VS. COLUMBIA
  • This will be the Red Foxes eleventh matchup against Columbia, with their last being in 2021 when the Lions defeated the Red Foxes 78-49.
  • The Lions are currently 5-2, with losses at Iowa State and at home against Vanderbilt. 
  • Junior Abbey Hsu leads the team in points with 105 total points, averaging 15 points per game.  Hsu had 24 points in two games this season, one in their season opener at Memphis and another against Iowa State.
  • Senior Hannah Pratt is another key player for the Lions leading the team with 7 blocks, averaging 1 per game.  Pratt also has the second most points per game (13 points) and averages the second most rebounds on the team with 5.7 per game.
  • As a team, the Lions are averaging 76 points per game.
UP NEXT
  • The Red Foxes will head up to Vermont to take on the Catamounts on Sunday, Dec. 4.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
