Men's Basketball Falls to Boston University at Home

Red Foxes Erase 13-Point Deficit, But Come Up Short in Final Seconds

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -  The Marist men's basketball team fell to Boston University by a score of 72-70 on Saturday night at McCann Arena.The loss snapped the Red Foxes' three-game winning streak.
 
Summary
  • BU went on an 18-5 run to start the game, led by eight points by Walter Whyte.
  • Noah Harris and Patrick Gardner combined to make four consecutive threes, as a 14-0 Marist run gave the Red Foxes a 19-18 lead with 8:44 left in the first half.
  • After a media timeout, BU and Marist traded three-point baskets, giving the Terriers a 28-24 lead with three minutes left in the first half.
  • A tip-in basket by Stephane Ingo and a driving layup by Patrick Gardner tied the game at 28. On the ensuing possession, Whyte scored his 16th point of the half, which gave Boston a 31-28 lead after 20 minutes.
  • Noah Harris opened the second half scoring with a three-pointer to tie the game at 31.
  • Isaiah Brickner made back-to-back driving layups in the span of 50 seconds to give Marist a 38-34 lead.
  • BU and Marist traded three-pointers as the lead changed three times. The Terriers would took a 44-41 lead with 14:47 left in the game.
  • BU took a six-point lead off a three-pointer from Caelan Jones with 11:40 to play.
  • A post move by Patrick Gardner cut the BU lead down to two with 3:49 left. Those points gave him 20.
  • Javon Cooley and Noah Harris made three pointers to cut the lead down to one, with 24.8 seconds to play.
  • A steal from Jaden Daughtry on the inbound pass with 15 seconds left down two led to an Isaiah Brickner layup, which tied the game at 70.
  • Whyte's putback with 3.8 seconds remaining gave the Terriers a two-point win.

  • Gardner finished the game with 20 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. He shot 6-for-12 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range, and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line..
  • Harris, who finished with seven threes, led Marist with 23 points. 
  • Whyte was the game's high scorer with 25 points, and also contributed eight rebounds. He shot 5-for-7 from deep.
  • Ethan Brittain-Watts finished with 16 points and six assists. He knocked down all four of his three-point attempts.
  • BU shot 12-for-24 from three-point range.
 
Notes
  • Gardner had at least 20 points for the fourth time this season. HIs six assists were a career high.
  • Harris' 23 points were a career high.
  • Isaiah Brickner set a career high with seven rebounds.
  • This was BU's first trip to Marist since 2009. The Terriers lead the all-time series, 5-2.
