Marist Women's Lacrosse Falls to Umass Lowell

Kerri Gutenberger led the Red Foxes with 5 goals

Lowell, Massachusetts- The Red Foxes dropped their first non-conference game against Umass Lowell in a hard fought battle on Sunday evening. Marist is now 0-1 on the season while Umass Lowell becomes 1-2.

  • The game began with a scoreless five minutes and back-to-back saves by goalkeeper Chloe Monroe within the first quarter of the game.

Second Half
  • To open the second half, the River Hawks scored at 12:35 and again at 10:41 to cut the game to a 6-5 Marist lead.
  • The River Hawks scored again at 7:53 making it a tied game 6-6.
  • It was not till 6:11 in the third quarter, Marist responded with a free-position goal by Delaney Hayes. Marist regained the lead with a score of 7-6.
  • Umass Lowell quickly answered with in a free-position goal at 5:49 to tie it once more at 7-7.
  • Junior Kelly Trotta scored at 1:11 of the third to help Marist regain the lead at 8-7 to conclude the third quarter.
  • At the start of the fourth, Olivia Arntsen scored at 12:33 to extend the Red Foxes' lead to 9-7.
  • At 3:36 the River Hawks scored its second straight goal to tie the game at 9-9.
  • Late in the fourth quarter, Umass Lowell scored with 2:27 to take their first lead of the game 10-9.
  • With :22 seconds left, Kerri Gutenberger got a free-position shot to tie the game back at 10-10.
  • With two seconds remaining in the game, Umass Lowell scored the game-winner to clinch victory, 11-10.
