Plenty of Action On Deck For the Red Foxes This Week

Men's Basketball
 
The men's basketball team gets set for another huge conference matchup Friday night. The game broadcast on ESPNU. The Red Foxes will be hosting Manhattan at 7 p.m. and celebrating senior night on a nationally televised broadcast on ESPNU. After having some early season struggles in close games, the Red Foxes have flipped the script, taking three close games over Canisius, Niagara, and Quinnipiac, and extending their winning streak to five games. The team currently sits in fifth in conference at 13-13 overall, and 8-9 in conference play.
 
 
Women's Basketball
 
Women's basketball looks to get on a roll with just a few games remaining before the MAAC Championships. Currently, 1-7 in their last eight games, the roster has struggled to find a rhythm, standing at 7-17 overall and 5-11 in conference play, 10th in the MAAC. The team has two more conference games slated this week. Marist will travel south to New Jersey to face off against Rider on Monday at 7 p.m. and on Thursday, they host Quinnipiac at 11 a.m. in a matinee affair broadcast on ESPNU.
 
 
Baseball
 
Expectations are high for the baseball team. The roster is stacked with talent, including two preseason All-MAAC team members with junior shortstop Dylan Hoy and senior outfielder Brian Hart. Hoy hit .410 in 2021 – 10th best batting average in the MAAC, while Hart helped protect the heart of the order, blasting five home runs and driving in 28 runs. The Red Foxes swept Norfolk State in a three-game series in their first outing of the season, scoring at least 12 runs in each game, and is off to the first 3-0 start since 2003. This weekend, the team travels down to Greenville, South Carolina to face off against two non-conference opponents. On Friday, they play Notre Dame at 4 p.m., Saturday, they go up against Wofford at 11 a.m. and on Sunday, they play Notre Dame again in a noon game to close out their trip down south.
 
 
Softball
 
In their first outing of the season, the UNCW Invitational, Marist lost four and won one, putting them at 1-4 on the season so far. Their lone win came against Bucknell in the last game of the weekend. This weekend they play at the Hatter Classic down in Florida against an array of different teams across the country. On Friday, they play URI at 10 a.m. and then Stetson at 5 p.m. Saturday, they face off against Harvard at 10:30 a.m. and then play URI again at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, they close the tournament against Harvard at 10 a.m.
 
Men's Lacrosse
 
After a hard-fought season opener against now ranked #5 Rutgers, the lacrosse team recovered with a very solid win against Binghamton. Four players racked up four points in the 11-9 victory: junior Kellen Pulera, senior James Lyons and redshirt senior Vito Musso. Pulera led the team with three goals, while the other two had two goals and two assists each. Following the Binghamton game, the Red Foxes lost to Richmond 18-4 and will look to rebound this weekend. Marist is currently 1-2 in this young season, with plenty more games to come. This Saturday, the Red Foxes will have their home opener, as they will host Bucknell at noon.
 
Women's Lacrosse
 
Following a quarterfinals elimination to Fairfield, the women's lacrosse team is looking to bounce back stronger this year. The Red Foxes lost a good number of seniors who were major contributors last season, however despite this loss, it will allow others to step up. Two players to watch are junior Kerri Gutenberger and graduate student Alexandra Di Chiara. Gutenberger finished 2021 with the 3rd most goal on the team with 17. While Di Chiara led in assists with nine. In their season opener, the Red Foxes fell in a close game to Umass Lowell 12-11. Gutenberger registered five goals and an assist, and Di Chiara scored a goal. Goalie Chloe Monroe had ten saves. The Red Foxes will host Army in their home opener at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Water Polo
 
After a dominant performance at the Bruno Classic, followed by a strong finish to the Triton Invitational, the Red Foxes got themselves back to .500 with wins against Monterey Bay, Santa Clara, and Cal State East Bay at the Santa Clara Invite. They are now 7-7 on the season and this weekend, they will host the Courtney Fisher Invite. At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, they will play Mercyhurst and then at 6:00 p.m., they play St. Francis-Brooklyn.
 
Swimming & Diving
 
After a strong showing at the MAAC Championships up in Buffalo, NY, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams look to keep the momentum going at the ECAC Championships. The men's team finished in third place, while the women's finished in fourth place, though the Red Foxes took home eight collective medals during the competition. Senior Ahmed Sallam swam phenomenally on the men's side, finishing first in the 50-yard freestyle with a 20.01 final time – school record, along with a 22.56 backstroke during the relay race, also a school record. For the women, it was all about graduate student Grace Reeves. She took first place in both the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive, earning herself the MAAC Most Outstanding Diver. The men's and women's diving teams will be heading down to Maryland for the ECAC Championships from Friday to Sunday, with each competition starting at 10 a.m.
 
Track & Field
 
Following a solid performance at the Valentine Invitational and the MAAC Championships, the men's and women's track and field teams will look to perform well at the Fastrack Qualifier. Sophomore Ramsey Little moved to third all-time in Marist history with a 14:20.23 time in the 5,000-meter run. Graduate student Hayley Collins earned an ECAC qualifying mark of 16:58.89 in the 5,000-meter run. Marist found some success at the MAAC Championships over the weekend. Jeremy Mooney came in sixth in the Men 200-meter dash with a time of 22.20 seconds. Collins came in sixth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:55.61. On Friday, both teams travel to Staten Island, New York for the Fastrack Qualifier.
 
Men's Tennis
 
The men of Marist tennis got their first win over the weekend against Fordham, 4-3. Dylan Friedman and Chistian Mills took home the doubles win in the first position. The Red Foxes also won in the first, second, and third singles positions. This Sunday, Marist will travel to play Hofstra at 3 p.m. as they try to continue the recent success.
 
Women's Tennis
 
Women's tennis will look to bounce back and build off its strong performance in its last match, despite the losing score. The team has been strongest in doubles, securing two match wins in doubles against Lehigh. Sophomore Deana Giambo has been their most consistent player, notching wins in doubles and singles win this year. Saturday, the Red Foxes will play Army at 9 a.m. and then on Sunday, they play Hofstra at 3 p.m.
