Iowa State Wins One-Run Game vs. Marist Softball

Baratta Homers Twice, Walsh Racks Up Three Hits

STOCKTON, California – The Marist softball team fell to Iowa State of the Big 12 Conference, 5-4, in the first of its five games at the Mizuno Classic on Thursday.
 
Summary
  • The Red Foxes jumped out to a 3-0 lead just three hitters into the game. After Shea Walsh singled and went to second on a wild pitch, Sam Freeland walked, and Caroline Baratta belted a line drive homer to right-center field.
  • Iowa State responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
  • The Cylcones took the lead with a run in the third.
  • Baratta's second home run of the day, a solo shot to lead off the fifth, tied the game at four apiece.
  • Marist had runners at first and third with no outs in the top of the seventh, but was unable to score.
  • Iowa State won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Milaysia Ochoa brought home Olivia Wardlow with the game's winning run.

  • Baratta drove in all four of Marist's runs, and went 2-for-4. It was the first two-homer game of her career.
  • Walsh went 3-for-4 with a run scored. It was her fourth career game with at least three hits.
  • Maddie Pleasants pitched a complete game for the Red Foxes with five strikeouts.
  • Marist outhit Iowa State, 8-7.
  • Kaylee Pond and Kasey Simpson each had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored for Iowa State.
