POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - For the first time this season,
Marina Hyham of the Marist water polo team has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. This is Hyham's first conference recognition since winning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year last season.
The senior dominated in goal this weekend, collecting a total of 41 saves while leading the Red Foxes to a perfect 4-0 record. In their two games on Saturday, Hyham allowed just five goals in each game, saving 12 shots against Iona and eight against VMI. In Sunday's matches against La Salle and Villanova, Hyham finished with 11 saves and 10 saves respectively, boosting Marist to two crucial conference victories.
The Red Foxes have a short weekend upcoming as they travel to Lexington City, Virginia for two games, both on Saturday. Marist will first square off with VMI at 10 a.m., before battling with Saint Francis Brooklyn at 5 p.m. Marist is currently riding a six-game win streak and sits in third place in the MAAC.
