ATLANTA, Georgia – The Marist volleyball team was defeated by the Auburn Tigers by a score of 3-1.
 

SET ONE

• Auburn took an early lead in set one, 5-1.
• The Red Foxes went on a 3-0 run, with two service aces from Sasha van der Merwe, cutting the lead to 4-5.
• A couple kills from Gabrielle Heller and Jordan Newblatt tied the set at six apiece.
• Auburn would go on a 3-0 scoring run to extend their lead later in the set to 19-14.
• The Red Foxes would battle from behind closing on Auburn's lead 19-18.

 

SET TWO

• Marist came out strong in set two, leading 4-0. Vanessa Zolg collected a kill and block, along with a kill from van der Merwe and Newblatt.
• The Red Foxes extended their lead with a 5-0 run, to lead Auburn 15-8.
• Zolg, Heller, and Van der Merwe all collected kill for the Red Foxes.
• Marist would close out the set strong, collecting the victory 25-16.

SET THREE

• The start of the third set was a close battle between the teams. Auburn began to pull away from the Red Foxes.
• The Tigers held the advantage over the Red Foxes, securing the win by a score of 25-9.

SET FOUR

• Auburn took another early lead,
• The Red Foxes went on a 4-0 run, to cut the Tigers lead. A service ace form Claire Lewis brought the Red Foxes within four.
• The Tigers pulled away, defeating the Red Foxes by a score of 25-12.

 

STATS

• Jordan Newblatt led the Red Foxes with 12 kills.
• Van der Merwe tallied nine kills and four service aces.
• Marist recorded 28 kills for the match. Following Newblatt were Heller (6), White (5), Fox (3), and Zolg (3).
• Fox recorded 28 assists against the Tigers.

 

UP NEXT

• The Red Foxes (2-1) head to the Hokie Invitational, they are scheduled for three matches.
• Marist will take on Old Dominion and Virginia Tech on Friday, Sept. 2 and Coppin State on Saturday, Sept. 3.
