Football Falls to Georgetown in Season Opener

Three Red Foxes Notch At Least 10 Tackles

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team dropped its season opener by a score of 43-12 to Georgetown at Tenney Stadium on Saturday.
 
Key to the Game
Georgetown capitalized on three Marist turnovers and two blocked punts, as just two of the Hoyas' seven scoring drives went longer than 50 yards.
 
Marist Highlights
  • In the first 20 minutes of the game, Marist defensive end Dominic Dutton recovered a muffed punt and registered two tackles for losses, including one on a fourth-and-goal play from the Marist 1.
  • Luke Paladino booted two first-half field goals, including one from 45 yards out on the final play of the half.
  • Brock Bagozzi connected with Brandon Lombana on a 43-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
 
Key Stats
  • Three Red Foxes (Teddy Wright, 11; Clayborne Fields III, 10; Aaron Acosta, 10) registered at least 10 tackles, while Arthur Pinckney followed closely with nine, and Mike Arrington and David Torres had eight apiece.
  • Georgetown had a 400-210 advantage in total yards, and a 38:09-21:51 edge in time of possession.
  • Georgetown was 7-for-15 on third-down conversions, and 4-for-6 on fourth down. Marist was 2-for-10 on third down and 0-for-1 on fourth down.
 
Notes
  • Paladino's 45-yard field goal was his fifth of at least 45 yards in his career.
  • Paladino now has five of the 10 longest field goals made in program history. He is 6-for-8 in his career on kicks longer than 40 yards.
  • Lombana's touchdown came in his first game as a Red Fox. The fifth-year senior previously played at Monmouth and Stonehill.
  • Acosta's 10 tackles were a career high.
