Daxboeck, Thompson With Two Wins Each in 4-3 Defeat

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's tennis team lost a thrilling, heartbreaking match to Hofstra, 4-3, in their season opener Saturday night, played at Cross Court tennis in Wappingers.  The match came down to a third set tiebreak at #1 singles, where the Red Foxes' Dylan Friedman fell 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, losing 7-5 in the deciding tiebreak.

"The agony and the ecstasy of sports was in full view tonight," said Marist Director of Tennis Gary Sussman.  " Unfortunately, we experienced the ecstasy first and finished with the agony."

Marist took the doubles point in heroic fashion, as the #2 team of sophomore Tomas Gomez and freshman Alex Thompson came back from a 6-2 deficit in the tiebreak  to overcome their opponents 9-7, giving Marist a 1-0 advantage.  The #3 doubles team of grad student Christian Mills and senior Moritz Dazboeck had set the tone earlier with their 6-2 win.

Daxboeck and Thompson both had outstanding nights as they added to their win totals with victories at #6 and # 4 singles respectively.
