POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Red-shirt junior running back
Amin Woods of the Marist football team was named FedEx Ground Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Woods ran for 232 yards and a touchdown on 38 carries, and he added a reception for 12 yards in Marist's 34-24 win over Stetson on Saturday. On Marist's first play from scrimmage, Woods broke free for a 67-yard touchdown, which is the longest run of his career.
Woods' performance placed him in multiple spots in the program's record book:
- The total of 232 yards is the seventh highest in Marist's Division I history.
- The 38 carries are tied for single-game record in Marist's Division I history.
- He became the first Red Fox to run for over 200 yards in a game since Obozua Ehikioya accomplished the feat at Davidson in 2008.
- The only other running back to receive 38 carries in a game in Marist's Division I history is also Ehikioya, who did it at Columbia in 2007.
Woods has been featured on ESPN College Football Final each of the last two weeks. He earned a helmet sticker for his performance on Saturday against Stetson, and he was recognized for his game-winning touchdown in overtime at Valparaiso the previous week.
On the season, Woods ranks 18
th in the FCS and second in the Pioneer Football League in rushing yards per game (97.2). His 232-yard game was the fourth-highest total in the FCS to date this season.
Marist, which has won two straight, returns to action on Saturday against Ivy League foe Columbia in New York City. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
