Men’s Rowing Open’s Fall Season

Men's Crew Take Part in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

WORCESTER, Massachusets -  The Marist Men's Rowing Team traveled to their first competition of the fall calendar.

The team was originally slated to row at the Head of the Housatonic Regatta in Shelton CT but that event was canceled due to inclement weather. Instead the team traveled to Worcester, MA for the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta. Nine other rowing team competed at the event including D1 Rivals Holy Cross and MIT. Marist was entered with one crew in the Men's Novice Eight event and two crews in the Men's Collegiate Eight event.

The regatta was hosted on lake Quinisgamond in Worcester MA. Conditions were moderate with light winds, temperatures in the low 60's, clouds and light rain.

The first crew to race was the Men's Novice Eight. The crew consisted of Joe Wyrozemski (cox), Matt Roscoe (stroke), Dylan Kresge (7), Pedro Guitian (6), Caden Todd (5), Mason Lockowitz (4), Brandon Wynn (3), Thomas Coniglio (2), Nolan Keane (Bow). The novice eight raced against seven other crews from around the Northeast. All members of the crew were true novices (their first year of rowing) except for stroke seat Matthew Roscoe. The crew posted a time of 15:52.86 which was good for 4th place, just ahead of the URI A crew and just behind the A crew from UMass.

Marist had two crew entered in the Collegiate Eight event.
The A crew consisted of Matthew Wright (cox), Gavin Crouch (Stroke), Holden Kopcsik (7), Tristan Wistuba (6), Nolan Libby (5), Peter Matinich (4), Axel Anderegg-Durwood (3), Thomas Graves (2), Drew Ngo (Bow). This boat posted a time of 13:31.024 and placed 10th of 25 crews.

The B crew consisted of Tessa Kurtzman (cox), Evan Brown (stroke), James Hadjandreas (7), Mason Roy (6), Andrew Davis (5), Connor Tandy (4), Matthias Topping (3), Liam Klemm (2), Zakary Schwarz (bow). This boat posted a time of 13:31.212 and Placed 11th of 25 crews.

"We had a great race to kick off the fall and we owe a special thanks to the Lake Quinsigamond group for letting us get involved when our race in Connecticut got canceled on short notice. I first want to mention the Novice Crew who had a great first day of competition today with 7/8 athletes in the boat being true novices with only a few weeks of training under their belts. The future is bright for these men! In the collegiate eights we had a mixture of athletes with freshmen and upperclassmen in both crews. The selection for these boats followed our erg scores and seat racing results but as you can see, the final result was two crews so close in speed that we could hardly have managed to do it on purpose! I think we have a good basis for selection at this point and next week we'll be getting down to brass tacks to make selection for the Head of the Charles crew." - Campbell Woods, Men's Rowing Head Coach
