POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist volleyball team defeated Niagara this afternoon 3-1. This victory ended a three game losing streak.
 

Recap

• Marist controlled the first set from the very beginning, going up 4-0. The Red Foxes did not relinquish control of the first set despite Niagara's best efforts. The Red Foxes took the first 25-20 after a block from Claire Lewis and Vanessa Zolg.
• Though the second set started closer than the first had, the Red Foxes were eventually able to take reclaim the control they had in the previous set. Eventually Marist closed out the second set 25-19 after a kill from Jordan Newblatt.
• The Purple Eagles fought back from and 18-11 deficit to eventually take the third set 25-23.
• The Red Foxes were sure not to let this match slip from them however as they took the lead early in the fourth set and did not lose it for the rest of the set. The Red Foxes eventually walked away with a 25-17 set victory thanks to another Jordan Newblatt kill.

Stats

• Emi Yakushev hit for .350 with 18 kills.
• Sasha van der Merwe tallied a double-double with 18 kills and 14 digs.
• Alyssa white had six kills and 4.5 total blocks
• Jordan Newblatt collected a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs.

Notes

• Sasha van der Merwe reached 1000 career kills in this match.
• She is now currently tied for the ninth most career kills in Marist volleyball history with 1,014.
