History

SAVANNNAH, Georgia - The Marist women's basketball team lost a hard-fought game against Mercer on Thursday afternoon.

Recap

QTR 1

Catie Cunningham kicked off the scoring with a layup 1:50 into the game.
Morgan Lee landed a three-pointer shortly after to make the score 5-2.
As the quarter went on several Red Foxes got involved, including Maeve Donnelly who landed her first bucket of the season.
The quarter closed with the Red Foxes ahead 16-14.

QTR 2

Lexie Tarul opened up the scoring for the second quarter with a jumpshot to give the Red Foxes a 18-14 lead.
Mercer then landed two consecutive three-pointers to give themselves a 18-20 lead.
Scoring slowed down for the Red Foxes through the rest of the quarter.
Despite this, Maeve Donnelly and Jackie Piddock both landed three-pointers in the final minute of play to cut the Bear's lead down to 30-26.

QTR 3

Zaria Shazer was first on the board for the Red Foxes in the third as both teams continued the compete level from the previous half.
Any time the Red Foxes seemed to gain some ground, the Bears were able to respond.
The end of the third quarter saw the scoreline at 49-38, in favor of the bears.

QTR 4

The Red Foxes came out of the gates firing in the fourth frame, scoring 17 of the first 22 points of the quarter.
Marist continued to push the pace of the game, responding each time the Bears attempted to create separation.
Two points down with only two seconds left on the clock, Zaria Shazer hit two free throws to send the game to overtime with the score tied 62-62.

As hard as Marist battled, Mercer was able to eventually best the Red Foxes 73-67.

Stats

Zaria Shazer collected a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. She ended the game with a 57.1 FG%.
Morgan Lee picked up 11 points, hitting two three-pointers.
Jackie Piddock tallied 11 points, hitting two three-pointers.
Catie Cunningham had nine points, five rebounds and two assists.
