NEW ROCHELLE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team earned a victory in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener at Ion on Wednesday night. The Red Foxes prevailed by a score of 68-64 as they earned their first triumph in New Rochelle since 2013.
 

Summary

• Kam Farris' jumper at the 11:25 mark of the first half gave Marist a 13-9 lead.
• Iona went on a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead with 4:50 left in the first half.
• Javon Cooley's three in the final minute of the first half put Marist up 25-24, but Isaac Brice's free throw tied the game at 25. The score remained 25-25 at halftime.
• Jadin Collins opened the second half scoring with a jumper, but a 7-0 Iona run forced a Marist timeout at the 8:16 mark.
• A pair of Max Allen II free throws with 11:26 remaining put Marist back in the lad at 43-41.
• With 5:27 remaining, Jadin Collins' layup gave Marist its largest lead at 59-49.
• With 1:15 to go, Greg Gordon's three-point play capped a 14-3 Iona run, and gave the Gaels a one-point lead.
• On the Red Foxes' next possession, Collins found Isaiah Brickner for a dunk on an out-of-bounds play, which gave Marist the lead for good.

• Marist sealed the win by going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final 25 seconds. Collins and Cooley each went 2-for-2.

 

Stats

• Collins led all scorers with 16 points. He shot 4-for-8 from the field and 8-for-10 from the line.
• Brickner and Cooley added 10 points apiece. Brickner also led the Red Foxes in rebounds (seven) and assists (four).
• In the second half, Marist shot .545 (12-for-22) from the field, .400 (2-for-5) from three-point range, and .739 (17-for-23) from the free-throw line.
• Gordon and Idan Tretout faced four Iona players in double digits with 14 points apiece.

 

Notes

• The is Marist's first win in New Rochelle since Feb. 7, 2013.
• This is the first time Marist finished November with a winning record since the 2007-08 season.
• Collins set career highs in points, free throws made, free throws attempted, and rebounds (five).
• Brickner tied his career high in rebounds.
• Allen has now made 17 straight free throws.
• Marist is now 15-12 in MAAC openers.

• Iona stands at 2-5 this season and 0-1 in MAAC play.
