Red Foxes Close Out Play in Winthrop Eagle Classic

ROCK HILL, South Carolina – The Marist softball team was defeated by Nevada, 6-0, in its final game of the Winthrop Eagle Classic on Sunday morning.
 
The Red Foxes finished their first tournament of the season at 1-4. Nevada improved to 9-1.
 
Summary
  • Nevada scored twice in the first, which included an RBI single from Haylee Engelbrecht.
  • Hannah Di Genova's sacrifice fly extended Nevada's lead to 3-0 in the fourth.
  • Haley Painter drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth, but the Red Foxes escaped a bases-loaded jam when second baseman Haley Ahr caught a line drive and doubled a runner off first to end the inning.
  • Nevada added a run in the sixth on an Aaliyah Jenkins RBI single, and another in the seventh on a Charli McLendon homer.

  • Nevada outhit Marist, 9-3.
  • Maddie Pleasants, Haley Ahr, and Ronni Howard singled for Marist.
  • Meghan Haff started and went the first 4.1 for Marist with two strikeouts. Pleasants struck out two in 2.1 of relief, and Reese Wilson recorded the final out in the seventh.
  • Carley Brown went the distance for Nevada. She struck out two and did not walk any.
