Women’s Basketball Travels to Quinnipiac

Red Foxes Seeking a Win Over Current Second Place Team

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's basketball team will play at Quinnipiac this Saturday, Feb. 4. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. This will be the second time the two teams face off this season.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Marist got off to a good start in the first quarter, in large part thanks to Zaria Shazer who scored 8 of the Red Foxes 19 first quarter points.
  • In the second quarter the Red Foxes shot just 1-for-12 from the field. This resulted in Mount St. Mary's starting to come back into the game going on a 10-4 run, cutting the Marist lead to just one at 23-22.
  • However the Red Foxes would answer with a 9-0 run, which gave them a 31-24 lead at halftime.
  • After surrendering a 5-0 run to Mount St. Mary's to start the third quarter, Marist answered with an emphatic 15-0 run where the Red Foxes held Mount St. Mary's scoreless for 7:24.
  • Marist would end the third quarter up 50-34.
  • But in the fourth quarter, things started to change, as Mount St. Mary's started the fourth with an 11-0 run, cutting the Marist lead to just five. 
  • However, Marist hung on thanks to some clutch free throw shooting from Kiara Fisher and Shazer. The duo combined to go 12-for-12 in the fourth quarter, with eight from Fisher and four from Shazer.
  • Shazer had a double double finishing with 22 points, 13 rebounds, along with going 10-for-11 from the free throw line. She added three steals and two blocked shots. Eight of her rebounds came on the offensive end.
  • Fisher scored 17 points, including a 12-for-12 performance from the line.
  • Marist went 28-for-33 from the free throw line (.848).
  • The Red Foxes scored 29 points off turnovers.
ABOUT QUINNIPIAC
  • Quinnipiac is currently tied for second place in the MAAC with a 9-3 record.
  • Two of their conference losses came from Iona (Dec. 17 and Jan. 14) with the other coming from Niagara (Jan. 5).
  • The Red Foxes and the Bobcats faced each other on Jan. 21, when the Red Foxes were defeated 58-52.
  • The Bobcats are on a five-game win streak.
  • Zaria Shazer scored a career-high 29 points in their last matchup against the Bobcats.
UP NEXT
  • The Red Foxes will host Rider and Canisius next week.
  • On Thursday, Feb. 9 the Red Foxes will host Rider at 7 p.m.
  • The following Saturday, Feb. 11, the Red Foxes will host Canisius at 7 p.m. This will be the Red Foxes' annual Play4Kay game.
