TAMPA, Florida – The Marist softball team fell in its first two games of the USF Tournament on Friday. The Red Foxes were defeated by Penn State 9-1 in six innings, and then to Saint Francis by a score of 6-4.
 

Game One

• Penn State broke open a scoreless tie with three runs in the third.
• The Nittany Lions added one in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
• Marist scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth. Peyton Pusey led off with an infield single, and scored on a two-out base hit by Haley Ahr.
• Calista Phippen started and struck out six in five innings.
• Kaitlyn Morrison scored three runs for Penn State, and Morgan Farrah drove in three.
• Kylee Lingenfelter pitched a complete game and struck out six for the Nittany Lions.

 

Game Two

• Saint Francis scored five in the bottom of the first.
• In the top of the second, a two-run double by Kaitlyn Husic scored Haley Ahr and Shea Walsh.
• Marist cut its deficit to 5-3 in the top of the fifth when Ahr's infield single brought home Sam Freeland. However, St. Francis countered with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
• In the seventh, Haley Ahr's groundout brought in Peyton Pusey. The Red Foxes loaded the bases, but were unable to bring in any more runs.
• Freeland and Har both finished with two hits.
• Kiley Myers pitched a complete game with six strikeouts. Five of the six runs she permitted were unearned.
• Rachel Marsden was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Saint Francis.

• Marist will have two games on Saturday at the USF Tournament.
• The Red Foxes will play Illinois at 2 p.m. and South Florida at 7:02 p.m. The South Florida game will be shown on ESPN+.
