Softball Shuts Out Cleveland State

Phippen Strikes Out Six, Ahr Drives Both Runs in 2-0 Win

CHARLESTON, South Carolina – The Marist softball team earned a 2-0 win over Cleveland State on Sunday in its final game of the Maroon & Gold Challenge.
 
The Red Foxes are now 7-9 overall, and went 3-2 in their five games in Charleston.
 
Summary
  • Peyton Pusey led off the bottom of the first with a double. She scored three batters later on a groundout by Haley Ahr.
  • In the bottom of the third, Maddie Pleasants drew a one-out walk. Pinch-runner Kaitlyn Husic then scored from first on Ahr's double.
 
Stats
  • Calista Phippen tossed a three-hitter and struck out six. She threw 63 of her 105 pitches for strikes for her 11th career shutout.
  • In addition to driving in the game's only two runs, Ahr had two hits.
  • Sam Freeland also had two hits.
