Men’s Basketball Set to Open MAAC Championships Tuesday Night

Red Foxes Will Face Manhattan in Opening Round

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team will open the 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championships at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Tuesday night. The 11th-seeded Red Foxes will face sixth-seeded Manhattan. Tip-off time is listed at 9 p.m.

  • Dean Darling (play-by-play) and Steve Eggink (analyst) will have the audio call for all of Marist's games in the championship on the Red Fox Network.

Season Overview
  • Marist went 10-19 in the regular season with a 6-14 record in MAAC play.
  • The Red Foxes had two three-game winning streaks and four losing streaks of three games or longer.
  • Marist lost its first four MAAC games, then won three straight, and then dropped five straight. The Red Foxes then went 3-3 in February and 0-2 in March.

  • Ant Nelson (9-for-13 from the field, 3-for-3 from three) led all scorers with 22, followed by Samir Stewart (6-for-10 from the field, 6-for-9 from three) with 20. Nick Brennen (5-for-8 from the field, 2-for-4 from three) had 15 points, and Adam Cisse had 11 rebounds (seven offensive).
  • Third Team All-MAAC selection Josh Roberts was out for Manhattan due to injury.

Second Meeting: Marist 81, Manhattan 58 - February 24, 2023
  • A 10-0 run staked Manhattan to a six-point lead near the midway point of the first half, but the Red Foxes outscored the Jaspers 77-48 over the final 30 minutes.
  • Patrick Gardner had a game-high 25 points, with 20 coming in the second half.
  • Stephane Ingo had a career-high 17 points and game-high 11 rebounds.
  • Noah Harris (15 points) and Javon Cooley (10 points) also scored in double figures for Marist, which shot 12-for-26 (.462) from three-point range.
  • Josh Roberts led Manhattan in points (14) and rebounds (seven).
