Softball Drops Two at Mount St. Mary’s

First Contest Goes Eight Innings

EMMITSBURG, Maryland – The Marist softball team was swept in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday. The Red Foxes dropped the first game 7-3 in eight innings and fell 5-2 in game two.
 
Game One
  • Mount St. Mary's broke open a scoreless tie with a three-run fourth, which included a two-run homer by Vanessa Martin.
  • Marist then scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh. In the fifth, Lauren Morrell scored on an error following an infield single by Peyton Pusey. Maddie Pleasants hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of the sixth. With Marist down to its final out in the top of the seventh, Pleasants delivered an RBI single, which brought home Hannah Brock with the tying run.
  • Mariah Godde won it for the Mount in the eighth with a walk-off grand slam.
  • Pusey led Marist with three hits. Pleasants and Reese Wilson had two hits apiece.
  • Calista Phippen pitched a complete with six strikeouts.
 
Game Two
  • The Mount took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the first.
  • The Red Foxes scored both of their runs in the top of the fourth. Wilson's infield single scored Morrell and Brock's sacrifice fly brought home Shea Walsh.
  • The Mount tacked on a run in the fifth on an error.
  • Haley Ahr had two of Marist's six hits.
  • Kiley Myers pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.
  • Maggie Kane went 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Mount.
 
Records
  • Marist is now 20-25 overall and 7-5 in the MAAC.
  • Mount St. Mary's is 27-15 overall and 10-3 in conference play.
 
Up Next
  • Marist returns home for a pair of MAAC doubleheaders next weekend.
  • The Red Foxes will host Quinnipiac on Saturday, April 29 and Manhattan on Sunday, April 30, which will be Senior Day.
  • First pitch of both days is set for noon.
