Softball Records Two Shutouts vs. Quinnipiac

Phippen & Myers Toss Gems, Pleasants Homers Twice in Game One

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team shut out Quinnipiac in both ends of its home doubleheader on Friday. The Red Foxes won both games by a score of 8-0 in six innings. 
 
Game One
  • Maddie Pleasants hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to give the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead.
  • Hannah Brock got the hitting started in the third inning with a single down the right field line. Peyton Pusey followed that up with a single of her own and then Sam Freeland singled as well to bring in the second run for Marist.
  • With runners on second and third, Pleasants stepped up to the plate and launched her second homer of the day to give the Red Foxes a 5-0 advantage through three innings.
  • After Reese Wilson drew a walk to start the bottom of the sixth, Isabella Manory hit her first career home run to extend the Red Foxes' lead to 7-0.
  • After three straight walks, Alyssa Grupp hit a walk-off single to end the game at 8-0 after six innings.
  • Pleasants finished with two home runs and four RBIs.
  • Calista Phippen went the distance in the circle, allowing only one hit and striking out four. Phippen retired the first 10 batters she faced and no-hit the Bobcats over the first 4.2 innings.
 
Game Two
  • In the bottom of the first, Pusey drew a leadoff walk. She stole second and then reached home after two errors on the same play.
  • Marist extended its lead to 2-0 in the third. Meghan Davis led off with a double and scored on Sam Freeland's infield single.
  • Marist put the game away with a six-run sixth. All eight Red Foxes who hit in the inning reached safely. Pusey's two-run single brought home Brock and Davis to end the game.
  • Davis finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
  • Kiley Myers went the distance, allowed just two hits, did not walk anyone, and struck out three. Myers needed just 57 pitches to get through six innings.
 
Records
  • Marist improved to 22-25 overall and 9-5 in the MAAC.
  • Quinnipiac is now 16-20 overall and 4-10 in the MAAC.
