WASHINGTON, DC – The Marist Volleyball team came up short on day two of the American Invitational as they fell to host American in four sets.

The Red Foxes concluded the tournament with a 2-1 record..
 

Recap

• The Red Foxes and Eagles got the battling started early as Sasha van der Merwe and Gabriella Heimbauer contributed crucial kills for Marist.
• Marist was able to close out set one by a score of 25-23 as Sasha van der Merwe and Gabriella Heimbauer came up with two clutch kills to end the set for Marist.
• In set two Marist & American once again battled for the lead as both teams exchanged points; however, American was able to go on a late scoring run late in the set to help the Eagles close out the set by a score of 25-18.
• In set three the Eagles would get off to a hot start as they won by a score of 25-10.
• In set four the Red Foxes and Eagles would exchange points back and forth as Sasha van der Merwe and Gabriella Heimbauer tallied multiple kills for the Red Foxes. However, American was able to come up with multiple crucial kills to close out set four by a score of 25-23 to win the match 3-1.

Notable Stats

• Sasha van der Merwe led the Red Foxes with 14 kills in the match.
• Gabriella Heimbauer & freshman Emi Yakushev combined for 19 kills for Marist.
• Kaitlyn Owens led the Red Foxes with 11 digs in the match.
• Owens also led the Red Foxes with 21 assists on the day.
