Outstanding Ground Performance Lifts Football Over Stetson

Woods Gains 232 on Ground, Red Foxes Run for Over 300 for First Time in 11 Years

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist football team earned a 34-24 home victory over Stetson at Tenney Stadium as part of Family Weekend on Saturday.
 
Summary
  • Amin Woods opened the scoring with a 67-yard touchdown run on Marist's first play from scrimmage.
  • Stetson tied the game 7-7 on a 12-yard rushing touchdown by Devon Brewer.
  • The Red Foxes capped off an 80-yard drive in the second quarter on a Max Jackson three-yard rushing touchdown, which gave the Red Foxes a 14-7 lead at the 7:19 mark.
  • Stetson answered with a 16-yard touchdown reception by Matt O'Connor.
  • The Red Foxes continued the scoring on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Brock Bagozzi to Jackson Willette with 33 seconds remaining in the second quarter. This put Marist back in the lead at 21-14.
  • On the final play of the first half, Stetson tied the game at 21 on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Matt O'Connor to Gabe Atkin.

  • Stetson's Daniel Holbrook's 34-yard field goal cut Marist's lead to 28-24 at the 11:12 mark of the third quarter.
  • Chase Gardi's 30-yard field goal gave Marist a 31-24 lead with 4:28 left in the third.
  • With 9:10 left in the fourth, Kyle Coffindaffer forced a fumble that Camron Ball recovered. The Red Foxes' ensuing drive culminated in a 20-yard field goal by Gardi, which accounted for the game's final points.
  • Isaiah Smith's interception with 4:18 to play helped seal the win for the Red Foxes.

  • Marist outgained Stetson, 524-364.
  • Woods ran for 232 yards on 38 carries, and also caught a pass for 12 yards.
  • Bagozzi finished 11-for-19 for 218 yards and two touchdowns with zero turnovers.
  • Stianche had 121 yards on three catches.
  • Nick Vecchiarelli led the Red Foxes with eight tackles.
 
Notes
  • Woods' 232 rushing yards marked the Red Foxes' first 200-yard rushing game since Obozua Ehikioya had 222 at Davidson in 2008. The total of 232 is the seventh highest in Marist's Division I history.
  • Woods' 38 carries tied the highest total in Marist's Division I history, and were the Red Foxes' most since Ehikioya had 38 at Columbia in 2007.
  • Woods' game-opening 67-yard touchdown run was the longest of his career, and the longest for Marist since Glenmour Leonard-Osbourne had an 80-yard touchdown run at Stetson last season.
  • The Red Foxes ran for 306 yards, marking Marist's first game with 300 rushing yards since a win at Valparaiso in 2012.
  • Marist's 524 yards of offense were its most since amassing 527 against Jacksonville in 2019.
  • The crowd of 4,287 was the fourth largest in the 17-year history of Tenney Stadium.
  • Stianche had his second 100-yard receiving game of his career, both of which occurred in the last three weeks.
  • The touchdowns for Jackson and Willette were the first of their careers.
