McCool's Heroics Lead Men's Basketball Over Siena

The Red Foxes Improve to 5-2 at McCann This Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's basketball team won a thrilling contest over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Siena by a score of 50-48 on Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena.
 
Summary
  • Jaden Daughtry got the scoring started for the Red Foxes with a strong drive to the hoop. Siena responded with a quick 7-0 run forcing a Marist timeout with 16:56 remaining in the first half.
  • The Saints extended their run to 20-2 as they made eight of nine field goal attempts and forced another Red Fox timeout. Marist found itself down 20-4 eight minutes into the game.
  • The Red Foxes utilized an 8-0 run, in which they held the Saints scoreless for 7:14, as they cut into the deficit and made it 20-12 with 5:24 remaining in the half.
  • Max Allen II scored the final five points of the half for Marist as they got within six at 25-19.
  • The two teams came out of the locker room trading buckets. At the first media timeout with 15:34 to go, Siena led 32-26. 
  • Siena made four field goals in a row to push their lead back to double digits at 40-30 with 13 minutes to go.
  • The Red Foxes responded in a big way with an 11-0 run that was capped off by a Jadin Collins three-pointer to take the lead at 41-40 with 6:48 to go in the game.
  • After a two-and-a-half-minute scoring drought, Collins crashed the offensive glass for a massive put-back and-one, which he converted to give Marist a 46-44 lead with under three minutes remaining. 
  • After Siena used its last foul to give with 9.9 seconds left in regulation, Collins drew two defenders and appeared to be passing out to the wing. McCool snagged the pass and finished a layup to give the Red Foxes a 50-48 lead. Siena had a chance with four seconds left, but Collins was there to steal the inbounds pass.

  • Allen II led the way with 15 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and two steals.
  • Jadin Collins added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a game-high three steals.
  • Josh Pascarelli chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.
  • The Red Foxes forced the Saints into committing 20 turnovers.
  • McCool's only shot attempt was the game-winner.
  • Siena led for 31:55 and its largest lead was 16. Marist led for 5:34, with its largest lead being two points.
  • Siena's Sean Durugordon led all scorers with 16, but was held eight under his average. Durugordon scored 11 in the first half
Notes
  • The 16-point deficit Marist erased is the largest in head coach John Dunne's six-year tenure at Marist. The previous largest was 14 points against Manhattan on Jan. 22, 2020. It is the seventh time in Dunne's tenure the Red Foxes have won after trailing by at least 10 in a game.
  • In four of the last five Marist-Siena games, the winning team has come back from a double-digit deficit.
  • Of the last 13 Marist-Siena games at McCann Arena, 11 have been decided by seven or fewer points.
  • Marist is now 5-2 at home this season.
  • Marist set a season low in points allowed by permitting just 48 to Siena.
  • Allen's three blocks set a new career high. He also tied his career high with two steals.
