BUFFALO, New York- The Marist women's swim and dive team earned its first win of the 2024-25 season in triumphant fashion, Friday afternoon. The Red Foxes defeated Canisius 170-124 in their first MAAC meet, led by
Eydis Kolbeinsdottir who finished with two first-place finishes for the Red Foxes.
The Red Foxes improved to 1-1 on the 2024-25 season, and earned its first win in MAAC meets.
- "It was a great meet on both sides against a very strong Canisius team. Our divers really set the tone early finishing first, second, and third and our swimmers followed suit. In some new events they really stepped up and raced well. We have a really good stretch against two top MAAC teams (Rider and Fairfield) coming up that will really test us to see who we are this early in the season."
- Eydis Kolbeinsdottir led the Red Foxes women's team with two first-place finishes in the MAAC win against the Golden Griffins.
- Kolbeinsdottir swam her way to a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, which tallied nine points for the Red Foxes. Kolbeinsdottir finished the 13th event of the match with a time 24.69.
- Kolbeinsdottir also finished first in the second freestyle swim of the meet, the 100-yard freestyle. Kolbeinsdottir finished with a time of 52.92 enroute to her second win of the meet.
- Maddie Healey dominated the 1000-yard freestyle, earning a first-place finish in the process. Healey finished the swim with a time of 10:56.88, finishing in front of teammate Bridget Rynkiewicz as she finished with a time of 11:05.29.
- Charlotte Lepis swam her way to a podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Lepis finished second in the swim with a time of 1:56.99, a .01 behind the first-place finish.
- Rae Dodson earned her second-straight win in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing over two seconds in front of the second-place finisher. Dodson swam to a first-place finish with a time of 1:05.27.
- Dodson also finished in first for a second-straight time on the 200-yard breaststroke. Dodson swam to first place with a time of 2:23.62.
- Lizzie Rebich earned her first win as a Red Fox in the 200-yard butterfly. Rebich finished in first-place with a time of 2:11.50, in front of her teammate who finished second, Melanie Nunn, with a time of 2:12.23.
- Anna Hoskovec earned her first Red Foxes first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.53.
- Emme Metzmaker also recorded her first Red Foxes win with a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.28.
- The Red Foxes swept the podium in the one-meter dive in the win against Canisius.
- The Red Foxes also swept the podium in the three-meter dive, earning two sweeps.
- Cavicchi placed first in the meet with a score of 190.43 in the meet.
- Cassidy followed with a second-place finish, scoring 183.45.
- Degise earned her second third-place finish of the meet with a score of 167.70.
- The Red Foxes continue MAAC play with a dual meet against Rider in an away meet.
- The meet is slated for Oct. 26 with first swim at 1 p.m.
