Sofia Cassano scored a goal in the second minute and the Red Foxes never looked back, as Marist women's downed MAAC foe Niagara, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon inside Tenney Stadium.
Anna Maggi and Cassano recorded a goal apiece, while
Maddy Catalanotti notched the fifth shutout of the season behind three saves in the victory.
With the victory, Marist improved to 3-8-2 on the campaign and 3-4-1 in the MAAC, while Niagara fell to 5-6-2 on the season and 1-5-2 in conference play with the loss.

Today was all about the number three, three points. We knew how important it was for us to get a really big win at home today just being that tight in the table, everything matters. The girls were really excited about it. We had some really great training sessions the last two days and I think it really showed on the scoreboard.

- Jillian Garcia pushed the pace on the far side before sending a cross to Sofia Cassano. Cassano tracked the ball then drilled it past the keeper off her right foot to put the Red Foxes ahead early
- Lauryn Schmidt sent a through-ball to the foot of Anna Maggi in the box. Maggi poked the ball past the keeper to extend the Marist lead to 2-0 in the 68th minute
- Cassano's goal was her first of the season and first as a Red Fox

- Five shutouts for Catalanotti marks a single-season career-high total for the junior
- Marist outshot Niagara, 17-10
- The Red Foxes tallied eight shots on goal, compared to three for Niagara
- Marist totaled nine corner kicks, while Niagara generated two
- After their matchup against Quinnipiac, the Red Foxes will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they play host to Niagara inside Tenney Stadium
- The match is set for a 2 p.m. start on ESPN+
