Volleyball Defeated in Five Sets by Merrimack

Sara Dasic Records Career-High 24 Kills in Loss

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Despite double-doubles from Sara Dasic and Jamison White, Marist women's volleyball came up short in its weekend finale against MAAC for Merrimack, as the Red Foxes were downed in five sets inside McCann Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Dasic led Marist with a career-high 24 kills and added 11 digs for the double-double, while White contributed 31 assists and 12 digs in the loss.

With the loss, Marist fell to 1-17 on the campaign and 1-6 in the MAAC, while Merrimack improved to 5-14 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.

SET ONE (25-11, Merrimack)
The Warriors jumped out to an early 15-6 advantage before the media timeout halted the action. Merrimack pushed its lead to 17-6 before the Red Foxes burned their first timeout of the set. Marist never found its footing in the frame, as the Warriors eventually took the opening set 25-11.
 
SET TWO (26-24, Marist)
The two sides were even through the first 14 points of the frame, playing to a 7-7 tie. However, the Warriors countered with a 4-0 run before Marist used a timeout down 11-7. Out of the break, the Red Foxes went on a 9-4 run to take a 16-15 lead, forcing a Merrimack timeout.
  Out of the break, Marist extended the run to 14-7, pushing the advantage to 21-18 before the Warriors used their final timeout of the set. In the return to action, Merrimack battled back to tie the set at 22-22 before a Taylor Miller kill gave Marist a slight 23-22 lead.

After falling behind 24-23, the Red Foxes ran off three straight points, led by two kills from Miller to snatch the set 26-24.
 
SET THREE (25-19, Marist)
The two sides were nearly even early in the set with Marist leading 11-10 before extending the advantage to 15-10 into the media break. Out of the timeout, the Red Foxes methodically built their lead to 20-15 before Merrimack burned a timeout. Out of the break, the Warriors countered with a swift 2-0 run to force a Marist timeout with the Red Foxes leading 20-17. Immediately out of the timeout, Marist built its advantage to 24-18 before a kill from Sara Dasic clinched the set for the Red Foxes.
 
SET FOUR (25-16, Merrimack)
The Warriors were hot out of the gate, jumping out to a 9-4 advantage before Marist called a timeout. Merrimack was able to build on its lead and keep its distance, extending the advantage to 17-11 in the frame. However, Marist crept back into the match at 18-14 to force a Merrimack timeout.

Out of the break, the Warriors rattled off three straight points to force Marist to use its final timeout of the set trailing 21-14. The Red Foxes were never able to recover, dropping the set 25-16.
 
SET FIVE (15-13, Merrimack)
It was a tightly contested battle early in the frame with the two sides playing to an 8-8 tie to open the final set before a block at the net for the Warriors gave Merrimack a one-point advantage to force a Marist timeout.

After falling behind 10-8, Marist rattled off three straight points off an Alyssa White kill, a Claudia Kasperski service ace, and a Merrimack attack error to take an 11-10 lead, forcing a timeout from the Warriors.

The two sides traded points to a 12-12 tie before Merrimack inched ahead behind a kill to force a Marist timeout trailing 13-12. Out of the break, the Red Foxes tied the set at 13-13 behind a kill from Dasic, however, back-to-back points from the Warriors sealed the 15-13 set win for Merrimack and 3-2 match victory.
