POUGHKEEPSIE, New York, - The Marist men's and women's rowing teams found a level of success this weekend, after competing in the Head of the Schuylkill and the Head of the Fish, respectively.
The men saw podium finishes with their Championship Pair boat which finished third and their College Frosh/Novice Eight's boat which earned a first-place finish.
The women earned silver-ware themselves with their collegiate pair boat finishing in second while their Collegiate Frosh/Novice 4+ boat also earned a silver medal.
Marist had 13 entries for the team and another two alumni entries racing at the event. Racing took place along a roughly 4km segment of the Schuylkill River on which crews raced in a "Head Race" or time trial format racing in single file for the best possible time.
Men's Championship Pair w/out Cox
The day started with the championship pairs event in which Marist had entered two crews. The Marist "A" pair consisted of seniors Liam Klemm (stroke) and
Thomas Graves (bow). The Marist "B" pair consisted of
Tristan Wistuba (stroke) and
James Hadjandreas (bow). The "A" pair pulled a time of 15:00.7 and placed 5th. The Marist B pair pulled a time of 14:31.7 and placed 3rd to claim a bronze medal in the event.
Men's Championship Four w/Cox
Marist had four entries in the championship fours event. The Marist "A" four consisted of:

Drew Ngo (bow). They posted a time of. 13:05.9 and placed 8th out of 37. The Marist "B" four consisted of: Joe Wyrozemski (cox) , Adam Whittman (stroke) ,

Dylan Kresge (bow) . They posted a time of 13:51.3. And placed 16th out of 37. The Marist "C" four consisted of:

Dante Karaiskos (2), and
Nolan Keane (bow), This boat posted a time of 14:08.6 and placed 25th out of the 37. The Marist "D" Four consisted of:

Matthias Topping (bow) , this boat posted a time of 14:01.5 which placed them 18th out of 37 boats.
Men's Senior Veteran Four.
This crew raced in the men's masters four category. The boat was ranked as a "senior veteran" four indicating that all the members of the crew were over 70 years old! The lineup consisted of David Cutcliffe (stroke), Steven Sepe (3), Greg Nesteroke (2) and Jim Cockroft (bow) and was helmed by current team member
Matthew Wright (cox) This boat posted a time of 14:56.4 and placed 5th out of 6 entries.
Men's College Frosh/Novice Eights

Men's Veteran Eight
This crew raced in the masters eight category representing the Marist Red Fox Navy Alumni Rowing Team. The crew was categorized as a "veteran" crew as the average age of the athletes was over 60 years old! This boat consisted of Dave Rowan (stroke), John Boyle (7), Jim Foley (6), William Graham (5), Peter Zimmerman (4), John Dyer (3), Brian Morrissey (2), and Scott Bennet (bow). The boat was helmed by current athlete
Anthony Proia (cox). This crew posted a time of 14:15.1 and placed 5th out of 5 crews.
Men's Championship Eights
The final event of the day was the men's championship eight in which the Marist Varsity Eight competed in. This crew consisted of: Mathew Wright (cox),

Thomas Graves (bow). This boat posted a time of 11:53.8 which gave them a place of 18th out of 24 crews.
Coaches' Comment
We had a great day today racing some of the strongest crews in the northeast on a lovely fall day in Philly. Almost all of our athletes got the opportunity to race twice. Women's Collegiate Pair
The day started off with the Women's Open/Collegiate Pair (2-). Two of our seniors,
Gabrielle Insero and
Summer Starrett, took to the race course with a good attitude and excited to kick off the racing for our Red Foxes. They finished 2nd of 13 with a time of 14:14.25, which claimed them the silver medal.
Women's Collegiate Eight
Our Varsity 8 raced next and consisted of coxswain
Ariana Novero,
Summer Starrett,
Kaleigh Tompkins,
Natalie Ronan,
Gabrielle Insero,
Sophie Forster,
Katie Beichert,
Lillian Iannaccone, and
Abby Deane. This crew finished 8th of 15 with a time of 12:10.84.
Women's Collegiate 2V Eight
We entered our 2nd Varsity 8 into a field of 21 crews. This crew consisted of coxswain

Amelia Nelson,
Nora Messer,
Samantha Stortz,
Kora Eckelman,
Caitlin Bartman,
Jennifer Liguori,
Rebecca Paul, and
Emily Liguori. They finished 11th with a time of 12:47.6.
Women's Collegiate Frosh/Novice 4+
The Freshmen/Novice 4+ consisted of coxswain
Brooke Dini,
Anna Fedders,
Stella McGinty, Elizabeth Klik, and
Elisa Huget. They finished 2nd in a field of 11 crews with a time of 15:47.3, which earned the team it's second silver medal of the day.
Women's Collegiate 4+
The Varsity 4 consisted of coxswain
Carina Pascucci,
Shelby McDougall,
Jenna Jaffe,
Sydney Macchia, and Alex Gibeault. They finished 19th out of 34 with a time of 14:33.2.
Women's Collegiate Frosh/Novice Eights
The final crews to race were the Freshman/Novice 8's in which we entered two crews who raced to 7th and 18th place finishes in a field of 20 crews. The A boat finished with a time of 14:37.79 and consisted of coxswain
Grace Foley, Gianna Angelucci, Ashleigh Coyne, Annika Platel, Sofia Renals, Reese McConochy, Grace Stoner, Anna Iannucci, and Gabi White. The B lineup finished with a time of 16:41.47 and consisted of coxswain Cara Orcutt,
Carlie Pazderski, Kaitlyn McGovern, Elena Waldbillig, Emily Matteson, Ella Manion, Daniela DiPietro, Cameron Anderson, and Paige Raynor. This was the first collegiate racing experience for both of these walk-on crews and each fought their way down the course against a challenging headwind, truly experiencing the essence of teamwork amidst a competitive field. This event marked another successful day of racing for all the Marist teams on Fish Creek!
The team is now preparing for its final fall competition at the Heart of the Housatonic in Shelton, CT against crews from Sacred Heart, UConn, Holy Cross, Fairfield, Bryant, Fordham, Monmouth, and Villanova on Saturday, November 2nd.
