Volleyball Wins Thriller Over Siena

The Red Foxes Clinch Victory in an Extended Fourth Set

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist volleyball team defeated Siena 3-1 at home on Wednesday night. After dropping the first set, the Red Foxes rallied to win three straight.

Sara Dasic led the Red Foxes offensively with 22 kills.

Katherine Thompson and Cecilia Potter-Pessoa each recorded four service aces.

With this win, Marist moves to 2-20 on the season and 2-10 in MAAC play.

Set One 25-20 Siena

The Red Foxes and Saints would trade blows early in the frame to even the score at 6-6. From this point forward Siena took control of the set. The Saints led by as much as eight points to make the score 22-14. Marist kept fighting to cut the deficit in half to 23-19.

Siena would go on to take back control and win the initial set 25-20.

Set Two 25-20 Marist

The Saints would begin the frame with four straight points. Marist bounced back with a strong response to even the score at 7-7. The Red Foxes continued pushing from that point and scored five straight points to lead 12-7. Siena nearly climbed back late in the set as the Marist lead was cut to one point at 19-18.

The Red Foxes would retain control for the rest of the frame, winning 25-20.

Set Three 25-16 Marist

Marist gained a five-point lead after a Sara Dasic service ace to make the score 8-3 at the beginning of the set. The Red Foxes doubled the lead to ten points after another Dasic service ace late in the frame to make the score 23-13.

Marist would keep the momentum for the rest of the set, winning 25-16.

Set Four 34-32

Siena would begin the final frame with four straight points for the second time this evening. The Saints would lead by as much as seven points with the score at 12-5. Marist would rally back with ten straight points to lead 15-12. The Red Foxes and the Saints would go back and forth well past the 25-point mark.

Dramatically the Red Foxes would go on to win the set 34-32 and secure the match victory.
