POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist volleyball team was defeated in its home opener by Iona 3-1 on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Sara Dasic collected a double-double with season-highs in kills and digs with 20 and 17 respectively.
Katherine Thompson tallied season-high 17 digs. She also collected four assists and three service aces.
With this loss, the Red Foxes move to 0-13 on the season and 0-4 in MAAC play.

Though Iona opened up the scoring, it was the Red Foxes that would go on to take a 10-6 lead in the early stages of the first frame. Iona would put on the pressure later in the set, tying the score at 20-20.
Marist was able to take the set 25-23 thanks to a kill from
Sara Dasic.

Early on in the second frame, the score was tied at 11-11 despite the efforts of
Sara Dasic and
Taylor Miller. Kills from Miller and
Alyssa White would break the deadlock. Shortly after this however, Iona would go on a four-point streak. Both teams would battle back and forth for the remainder of the set.
Iona would go on to take the second set 26-24.

The Red Foxes would have a strong start in the third set, with contributions from
Taylor Miller,
Katherine Thompson and
Alyssa White putting the Red Foxes up 3-1. Iona would not go away quietly however and would continue to battle the Red Foxes. With the score sitting at 15-11 in favor of Marist, the Gaels would go on an eight point streak to put the score at 19-15.
The Gaels would go on to take the set, 25-20.

The fourth set started similarly to the rest with an early back and forth struggle resulting in a 5-5 scoreline. This trend would continue for a majority of the set, with Iona eventually going on the advantage later on thanks to a five-point rally.
The Gaels would seal victory for themselves after taking the match, 25-23.
