Women's Hoops Drills 13 Three's En Route to Six-Point Home Victory

2POUGHKEEPSIE, NY. – Junior Morgan Lee scored a team-best 14 points to lead the Marist women's basketball team past Cornell, 62-56, in the 2024-25 home opener inside McCann Arena Sunday afternoon.

Lee led the way for the Red Foxes with 14 points, while Danielle Williamsen and Lexie Tarul added 11 points apiece in the win.

With the win, Marist improved to 1-1 on the early campaign, while Cornell starts the 2024-25 campaign at 1-2 with the loss.

FIRST QUARTER

Marist was trailing 9-7 early before a Julia Corsentino three-pointer gave the Red Foxes their first lead of the afternoon with 2:32 left in the frame.

However, the Big Red held Marist to just two points the rest of the way in the quarter as Cornell took a 13-12 lead into the second.

SECOND QUARTER

Cornell opened the frame with a 9-0 run, forcing a Marist timeout trailing 22-12 with 5:53 left in the first half. Jackie Piddock nailed a three-pointer immediately out of the break to snap the Marist scoring drought and spark a 5-0 Marist run, forcing a Big Red timeout.
After Cornell pushed its lead to 24-17, Marist closed the half with an 8-2 run to trim the deficit to 26-25 heading into halftime.

THIRD QUARTER

The Red Foxes came out firing to open the third quarter, striking for a swift 5-0 run behind a Lexie Tarul triple and a transition layup from Danielle Williamsen to push Marist ahead 30-26, forcing a Cornell timeout.
The Marist run reached as high as 17-4 behind triples from Tarul, Danielle Williamsen, and Morgan Lee to extend the Red Foxes' advantage to 42-30, before taking a 46-38 lead into the fourth.

FOURTH QUARTER

After Marist extended its lead to 51-41, the Big Red responded with a 10-2 run to trim the Red Foxes' lead to 53-51 before Marist took a timeout with 5:03 left in regulation. Cornell extended its run to 12-2 out of the break, tying the contest at 53-53 before back-to-back three's from Williamsen and Lee gave Marist the lead again.
