Marist Rallies to Defeat New Hampshire for Homestand Sweep

Pascarelli & Lewis Score 14 Apiece to Lead Red Foxes to Fourth Straight Victory

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's basketball team rallied in the final minutes for a 54-49 win over New Hampshire inside McCann Arena on Saturday.

Josh Pascarelli and Elijah Lewis led the Red Foxes in scoring with 14 points each. Jaden Daughtry added nine points, five rebounds, and four blocked shots.

With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 4-1 on the early campaign while the Wildcats fall to 2-7. 
 
First Half
  • New Hampshire opened the scoring with a 6-2 lead.
  • Trailing 9-4, Jason Schofield and Jadin Collins-Roberts scored on consecutive possessions to make it 9-8.
  • The Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to take a 16-8 lead, their biggest of the game.
  • The Red Foxes responded with a 7-0 run of their own to make it a one-point game again.
  • Marist shot 9-for-20 (.450) from the field in the first half, while New Hampshire shot 9-for-23 (.391).
  • Marist shot 2-for-8 (.250) from three-point range in the first half, while New Hampshire shot 3-for-8 (.375). 
  • New Hampshire took a 24-22 lead into the halftime break.
  • New Hampshire never trailed in the first half.
  • Khalil Badru scored a game-high eight points in the first half.
 
Second Half
  • Elijah Lewis scored the first points of the second half to tie the game at 24 apiece.
  • Khalil Badru scored with just under six minutes remaining to give the Wildcats a 39-34 lead, their largest of the second half.
  • A three pointer by Jackson Price, assisted by Collins-Roberts, with 2:57 on the clock put the Red Foxes ahead 43-42 for their first lead of the game.
  • Josh Pascarelli drained both of his free throw attempts to give the Red Foxes a 45-42 lead with 2:16 remaining.
  • Nursing a 47-46 lead, Josh Pascarelli delivered the dagger with a triple to put the Red Foxes up 50-56 with :51 remaining. 
  • Elijah Lewis sank both of his free throw attempts with eight seconds remaining to give the Red Foxes an insurmountable 54-49 lead.

  • Elijah Lewis paced the Red Foxes with 14 points, six rebounds and an assist. He added two steals on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Pascarelli added 14 points, along with two rebounds and an assist.
  • Jaden Daughtry added 9 points, shooting an efficient 4-for-5 from the field. He added five rebounds and two assists.
  • Daughtry had a game-high four blocks on the defensive side of the ball.
  • Collins-Roberts had a game-high four assists.
  • Marist shot 18-for-43 (.419) from the field, while New Hampshire shot 17-for-53 (.321).
  • Marist shot 4-for-19 (.211) from three-point range, while New Hampshire shot 5-for-19 (.263). 
  • New Hampshire held a 34-31 edge in rebounds.
  • Despite trailing for 35:29 of gameplay, once Marist took the lead with under three minutes remaining, they held on for the remainder of the game.
Notes
  • Daughtry's four blocked shots were a career high.
  • With today's win, Marist has its sixth winning streak of at least four games in head coach John Dunne's seven seasons.
  • Marist's points allowed (49) and field goal percentage defense (.321) were both season bests.
  • Marist is 8-2 at McCann Arena in November the last four seasons, with five straight victories.
