Elijah Lewis Scores 1,000th Career Point in Marist’s Win at Stony Brook

Red Foxes Erase 14-Point Deficit in Third Straight Victory

STONY BROOK, New York – The Marist men's basketball team earned its third straight win on Tuesday night with a 68-66 triumph at Stony Brook.
 
Junior Elijah Lewis scored his 1,000th collegiate point on a jumper at the 17:58 mark, which were the Red Foxes' first points of the game.
 
 
First Half
  • A 7-0 Marist run, which included four points by Lewis, staked the Red Foxes to an early 7-2 lead.
  • The Seawolves outscored the Red Foxes 25-7 over a span of 7:43, and took their largest lead of 14 points.
  • Marist held Stony Brook without a field goal for the final five minutes of the first half, which cut the Red Foxes' deficit to 36-30 after 20 minutes.
 
Second Half
  • Layups by Jackson Price and Lewis brought Marist to within two with 18:30 remaining.
  • Stony Brook scored the next four points, and for a span of eight minutes, the Seawolves' lead hovered between three and six points.
  • Marist took a 53-52 lead on a layup by Lewis with 7:45 to go. It was the first of five lead changes over the ensuing 4:37.
  • With 3:08 to play, Josh Pascarelli's three-pointer put Marist back in the lead at 61-58. Jaden Daughtry's trey 1:02 later gave the Red Foxes a six-point lead.
  • Pascarelli scored the Red Foxes' final three points. His jumper with 23 seconds to go put Marist up four, and he hit a free throw in the waning seconds.
 
 
Stats
  • Marist had four double-digit scorers: Lewis (16), Pascarelli (15), Daughtry (10), and Price (10). Lewis' point total was a game high.
  • Daughtry grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
  • Jason Schofield dished out a career-high seven assists.
  • Pascarelli also contributed three steals.
  • Marist shot .517 (15-for-29) from the field in the second half and held Stony Brook to .381 (8-for-21) in the final 20 minutes.
 
Notes
  • Lewis scored the first 910 points of his career at Adelphi the last two seasons, and has now scored 105 at Marist. He is the 33rd player in program history to score his 1,000th point in a Marist uniform.
  • This is the 12th time in head coach John Dunne's tenure that the Red Foxes have overcome a double-digit deficit to win. The 14-point deficit is the largest Marist has overcome to win a game this season.
  • This is the fifth time this season Marist has had at least four double-digit scorers.
  • Marist is now 4-1 in games decided by five points or less.
  • Schofield's seven assists were a career high.
  • Pascarelli's three steals tied a career high.
  • This was Marist's first trip to Stony Brook since 2013.
