POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's basketball team earned its fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon, as the Red Foxes came back to defeat UMBC by a score of 76-73 in overtime at McCann Arena.
- Marist jumped out to a 5-2 lead at the 17:44 mark.
- UMBC used a 5-0 spurt to take a four-point lead at 13-9 with 14:38 left.
- UMBC outscored Marist 16-7 over a span of 4:03 to take its largest lead of 10, 37-27 at the 4:03 mark.
- Marist closed the half with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 39, punctuated by a Josh Pascarelli three in the waning seconds. Pascarelli scored seven points in this stretch.
- The Red Foxes scored the first four points of the second half to extend their run to 13-0, as Marist took a 43-39 lead with 18:36 to go. The Red Foxes held the Retrievers scoreless for a total of 4:32 over the run.
- UMBC re-claimed the lead on a Marcus Banks Jr. three-pointer, which put the Retrievers up 53-50 with 12:10 to go.
- Marist then countered with a 6-0 run to go up three at the 9:58 mark.
- UMBC re-claimed the lead with a 5-0 run, as Marist was held scoreless for 4:42.
- Field goals by Jason Schofield and Elijah Lewis on back-to-back possessions put Marist up 60-59 with 4:58 left.
- Josh Odunowo's jumper with 2:44 gave UMBC a 67-61 advantage, but Marist answered with a 6-0 run – which included two field goals from Jadin Collins-Roberts – to tie the game with 1:01 left.
- After Banks' three put UMBC up 70-67 with 40 seconds left, Marist scored the final three points of regulation. Lewis hit two free throws with 19 seconds left. After a tie-up gave the ball to Marist on the possession arrow, Jaden Daughtry was fouled split a pair of free throws with one second left.
- UMBC scored the first three points of the extra period, but Marist scored the final six as the Red Foxes held the Retrievers scoreless for the final 3:40.
- Collins-Roberts' layup with 2:27 left gave Marist the lead for good.
- Lewis' two free throws with 10 seconds left sealed the victory.
- Lewis led the Red Foxes with 17 points, and he went 9-for-9 from the line. He added five rebounds and two steals.
- Lewis paced four Marist double-digit scorers, as Pascarelli (16), Collins-Roberts (14), and Schofield (11) all topped 10.
- Daughtry grabbed 16 rebounds and had a team-best five assists.
- UMBC's Bryce Johnson led all scorers with 23.
- This is Marist's best start after 10 games (8-2) since the 2006-07 season. It's tied for the Red Foxes' third-best start after 10 games in program history.
- Daughtry's 16 rebounds tied a career high, previously set last season at Saint Peter's. The last Red Fox to have more than 16 rebounds in a game was Adam Kemp at Fairfield (19) in 2014.
- Daughtry's five assists were a career high.
- This is the 13th time in head coach John Dunne's tenure that Marist has won after trailing by double digits in a game.
- This is the seventh time in Dunne's tenure that Marist has won four in a row.
- At 5-0, Marist is the MAAC's only undefeated team at home.
- Marist has now won five straight overtime games, a streak that dates back to the 2021-22 season.
- Marist is now 4-0 this season in games decided by three points or less.
- Marist's last six games have all been decided by seven points or less.
- This was UMBC's first trip to Poughkeepsie. The first meeting between the teams took place in Baltimore last year.
- UMBC is now 7-7 this season.
- Marist now stands at 8-2 this year. This is the Red Foxes' best start after 10 games since the 2006-07 season (8-2), and is tied for the third best record after 10 games in the program's Division I history.
- Marist will play its final non-conference game against Binghamton on Sunday, Dec. 29 at McCann Arena.
