POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Zaria Shazer and
Catie Cunningham recorded a double-double apiece, but it wasn't enough, as Marist women's basketball came up short at home against Quinnipiac at home, 64-62, in overtime Thursday evening inside McCann Arena.
Cunningham totaled 12 points and 17 rebounds in the contest, while Shazer notched 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
With the loss, Marist fell to 5-14 on the campaign and 3-6 in the MAAC, while Quinnipiac improved to 8-11 overall and 5-5 in conference play on the 2023-24 season.

The two sides were even through the first half of the opening frame, going into the media timeout tied at 6-6 with 4:46 left in the first quarter. The two sides remained even through the end of the frame, going into the second quarter tied at 9-9.

The Red Foxes came out firing in the second quarter, opening the frame with a 7-2 run before Quinnipiac called a timeout with Marist leading 16-11 with 7:42 left in the half.
Marist kept its foot on the gas out of the break, pushing the run to 13-4 out of the timeout to take a 22-13 lead. However, Quinnipiac responded with an 11-3 run of its own to trim the Marist lead to 25-24. But the Red Foxes closed the frame with three straight points to take a five-point advantage into the second half.

The two sides were nearly even through the first half of the third quarter, with Marist narrowly outpacing Quinnipiac 4-3 to take a 33-27 advantage into the media timeout with 4:45 left in the third quarter. The Bobcats cut the Marist to as close as 42-38, however
Lexie Tarul drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Red Foxes into the fourth quarter with a seven-point lead.

The Bobcats used the opening 5:15 of the fourth to outscore the Red Foxes 6-2 to trim the Marist lead to 47-44, forcing a timeout from the Red Foxes. Quinnipiac was able to tie the contest at 50-50 with 53.6 seconds remaining in overtime before Marist called a timeout. Both team's went scoreless in the final 53 seconds of play to force overtime tied at 50-50.

The two sides exchanged scores with Quinnipiac holding a slight edge, 58-54, with 2:14 left in the overtime period. With Marist trailing 60-56,
Catie Cunningham scored in traffic and through contact for the three-point play, trimming the deficit to one.
However, the Red Foxes ran out of gas, as the Bobcats held on for the 64-62 victory over Marist.

- The Red Foxes will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 3 when Marist plays host to Siena in MAAC play.
- Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside of McCann Arena on ESPN+.
