POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's lacrosse team defeated the Bucknell Bison by a score of 17-10 in a non-conference battle for its home opener at Tenney Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

- Bucknell struck first with three quick goals forcing a Marist timeout with 12:32 to go in the opening frame.
- The Red Foxes responded in a big way, scoring four straight goals. Joshua Balcarcel scored two and assisted Jake Deacy for one, while Stephan Bickel scored in a man-up situation for Marist as they took a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Sean Mullan scored the first goal of his collegiate career with 13:50 to go in the second quarter to increase the Marist lead to 5-3.
- The Bison countered to get back within one at the 12:07 mark.
- Six seconds later Dylan Bedell won the face-off and made a run right to goal, firing it home and giving the Red Foxes a 6-4 lead.
- Deacy scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Collin Patrick. Two minutes later, Patrick found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal making it 8-4.
- Patrick scored his second of the day on an assist by Sam Ferrel. Exactly one minute later Bickel fired in his second goal on an assist by Drew Anderson to push the lead to six.
- The Bison scored to make it 10-5 with 1:29 remaining in the first half.
- Balcarcel found the back of the net with two seconds left to complete his opening-day hat trick and give Marist an 11-5 lead heading into the locker room.
- Bucknell struck first in the second half to cut into the Marist lead.
- Balcarcel responded for the Red Foxes, scoring his fourth goal of the game to make it 12-6 with 11:17 remaining in the third quarter.
- Marist added to its lead as Deacy scored two more goals, both on assists from Balcarcel making it 14-6 at the end of three.
- Balcarcel opened the fourth quarter with his fifth goal of the game on an assist by Austin Herr.
- The Bison scored two straight to cut into the Red Fox lead making it 15-8 with 10:56 to go in the game.
- Christian Colantonio scored his first collegiate goal at the 9:38 mark.Â
- Bucknell found the back of the net to make it 16-9 with 8:06 remaining.
- Patrick completed the hat trick on a behind-the-back shot to push the Marist lead back to eight.
- The Bison added another one with 6:28 remaining in the game to make it 17-10.
- Balcarcel set career highs in goals and assists with five and three.
- Noble Smith recorded a career-high 17 saves.
- Patrick recorded a hat trick in his collegiate debut.
- Deacy added four goals to open the season.
- Mullan and Colantonio each scored their first collegiate goals.
- The Red Foxes will host Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 17.
- The opening face-off is set for 1 p.m. from Tenney Stadium.
