POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y – Senior
Zaria Shazer scored a team-best 12 points to lead Marist women's basketball, however, it wasn't enough in the Red Foxes' defeat at home against Iona, 62-53, Saturday evening inside McCann Arena. With the loss, Marist fell to 5-17 on the campaign and 3-9 in the MAAC, while Iona improved to 7-15 overall and 3-10 in conference play on the 2023-24 season.

The two sides were nearly even through the first five minutes of action, as Iona carried an 8-7 lead into the game's first media timeout. However, the Gaels closed the frame with a 13-5 run to carry a 21-12 advantage into the second quarter.

The Red Foxes came firing out of the gate, opening the quarter with a 9-0 run, backed by a
Lexie Tarul three-pointer to knot the game at 21-21.
After Iona took a brief 23-21 lead,
Morgan Tompkins came down and scored on a euro-step layup to tie the contest at 23-23 entering the media timeout with 4:29 left in the half.
Out of the break, the Red Foxes went on a swift 5-0 run to push ahead 28-23, forcing an Iona timeout. The Gaels held Marist to just two points the rest of the half, trimming the Red Foxes' lead to 30-29 heading into halftime.

The Gaels held the Red Foxes scoreless for the first 7:30 of the third quarter, allowing Iona to build a 39-30 lead before Marist closed the frame with an 8-1 run to cut the deficit to 40-38 entering the fourth.
The Gaels opened the fourth with an 8-2 run to push ahead 48-40, forcing a Marist timeout with 5:36 left in regulation. Out of the timeout, the Red Foxes traded baskets with the Gaels until the media timeout with 3:42 left where Marist was trailing 52-46. The deficit proved to be too much for the Red Foxes, as they eventually came up short, 62-53.

- Morgan Lee contributed nine points, three blocks, and a career-high 10 rebounds
- Kiara Fisher added nine points, six rebounds, and five assists in the contest.

- The Red Foxes will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 16, when Marist continues MAAC play on the road against Canisius.
