Men's Lacrosse Hosts Jacksonville on Saturday

Red Foxes Aim to Start Season 2-0 For First Time Since 2021

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist men's lacrosse team aims to open its season at 2-0 for the first time since 2021 when it plays host to Jacksonville  inside Tenney Stadium this upcoming Saturday, Feb. 17. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.

 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Marist men's lacrosse team defeated the Bucknell Bison by a score of 17-10 in a non-conference battle for its home opener at Tenney Stadium this past Saturday.
  • The Red Foxes had seven different players record a goal in the contest.
  • Joshua Balcarcel had a career day, totaling five goals and three assists for eight points.
  • Collin Patrick recorded a hat trick in his collegiate debut.
  • Jake Deacy added four goals to open the season.
  • Noble Smith got the start in net and recorded a career-high 17 saves.
MAAC WEEKLY AWARDS
  • Joshua BalcarcelDylan Bedell, and Collin Patrick of the Marist men's lacrosse team earned weekly awards from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday.
  • Balcarcel was honored as Offensive Player of the Week, Bedell garnered Face-Off Player of the Week honors, and Patrick was named as Rookie of the Week.
  • In a 1-0 week for the Red Foxes, Balcarcel totaled a career-high five goals, along with three assists for a career-high eight points in Marist's season-opening victory over Bucknell at home. Balcarcel had five shots on net with all being converted for goals. He also collected a groundball and was credited with the game-winning goal.
  • Bedell was named the Face-Off Player of the Week after winning 16-of-29 face-offs in the opener against Bucknell. In the victory, Bedell added 14 ground balls and scored a goal on the lone shot he attempted in the contest.
  • Patrick made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut against Bucknell. The freshman totaled three goals for his first career hat trick to go along with an assist for four points and two groundballs to help lead Marist to victory in the opener.
SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE
  • Marist will take on Jacksonville for the fifth time in history.
  • The Red Foxes are 3-1 all-time in the series.
  • The Dolphins came away with a 13-5 win the last time the two sides met, marking the program's first-ever victory over Marist on Feb. 18, 2023.
  • Jacksonville enters the contest at 1-0 on the early 2024 campaign.
  • The Dolphins picked up a 9-8 victory over Binghamton on the road in its opener on Feb. 10.
  • Jack Taylor and Ethan LaMond scored two goals apiece in their victory.
UP NEXT
  • The Red Foxes will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 20, when Marist travels to take on UMass
  • The opening face-off is set for 3 p.m.
