ABILENE, Texas – The Marist softball team dropped the first two games of its season on Friday in the Abilene Christian Tournament.
 
The Red Foxes were defeated by Houston Christian, 8-2, in their first game. In their second contest. New Mexico topped Marist by a score of 13-3.
 

Game One

• Houston Christian put across single runs in the top of the second, third, fourth, and fifth.
• The Huskies then added three in the six and another in the seventh.
• Marist got on the board in the seventh. Peyton Pusey and Miah McDonald walked to open the inning, and Haley Ahr drove in both with a double.
• Houston Christian outhit Marist, 13-7.
• Isabella Manory led the Red Foxes with two hits.

 

Game Two

• New Mexico scored in the top of the first, but Marist countered with a three-run second. Taylor Anderson's single brought home Alyssa Grupp. Miah McDonald followed with a two-run single that scored Ronni Howard and Anderson.
• New Mexico scored once in the top of the third, but Peyton Pusey started an 8-6 double play to end the inning.
• The Lobos took the lead with four runs in the fourth, and scored four more in the fifth. They added another three in the seventh.
• Alyssa Grupp went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

• Marist returns to action at the Abilene Christian Tournament with two games on Saturday.
• The Red Foxes will face Houston Christian at 1 p.m. and Abilene Christian at 6 p.m.
