BOILING SPRINGS, North Carolina – The Marist softball team split a pair of games on its first day of the Red & Black Classic, hosted by Gardner-Webb

After dropping their first game of the day by a score of 5-0 to Lindenwood, the Red Foxes bounced back for a 10-3 triumph over Hampton.

Marist is now 3-4 on the season.

- Lindenwood scored two unearned runs in the top of the first.
- The Lions tacked on another with a solo homer by Tori Hatton in the top of the fifth, and then added single runs in the sixth and seventh.
- Kiley Myers went the distance in the circle for the Red Foxes with eight strikeouts. Three of the runs Myers allowed were unearned.
- Peyton Pusey singled, walked, and stole a base. Alyssa Grupp also reached twice (single, stolen base).
- Amanda Weyh struck out six for Lindenwood.

- Marist broke open a scoreless tie with three in the top of the third. Kaitlyn Husic led off with a triple, and Peyton Pusey reached on a bunt. Miah McDonald's single brought both home, and then McDonald scored on Haley Ahr's single.
- Hampton tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
- The Red Foxes then scored five in the top of the fifth. Pusey (double), McDonald (double), Ahr (double), and Alyssa Grupp (triple) all had extra base hits. McDonald, Maddie Pleasants, Ahr, Grupp, and Rowan Drew all drove in runs.
- Grupp's two-run double in the sixth put Marist up 10-3.
- Pusey and McDonald finished with three runs apiece.
- Marist had 13 hits, led by Ahr with three. Pusey, McDonald, Pleasants, and Grupp had two apiece.
- Grupp drove in three, while Ahr and McDonald had two RBIs.
- Anna Sidlowski went the distance in the circle, scattering four hits and striking out three.

- The Red Foxes will take on Hampton at 1 p.m. and Gardner-Webb at 5 p.m.
