Joe Ausanio Wins 400th Game

Marist Softball Earns Wins Saturday vs. Hampton & Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, North Carolina – Marist softball head coach Joe Ausanio earned his 400th career victory on Saturday as the Red Foxes won twice at the Red & Black Classic.
 
Marist earned a 7-4 comeback victory over Hampton, and then prevailed 3-0 over host Gardner-Webb.

The Red Foxes have now three straight, and they are 5-4 on the season.
 
Game One
  • After Hampton scored in the top of the first, Marist tied the game in the bottom half. Peyton Pusey led off with a single, and she scored on Maddie Pleasants' double.
  • Hampton scored twice in the fifth and once in the sixth. The Lady Pirates led 4-1 with the Red Foxes down to their final six outs.
  • Marist came back with a six-run bottom of the sixth. Anna Sidlowski's pinch-hit two-run double brought home Alyssa Grupp and Isabella Manory. Taylor Anderson's RBI single scored Kaitlyn Husic to tie the game. Pleasants' RBI groundout plated Sidlowski and gave Marist the lead. Haley Ahr's RBI single brought home Anderson, and then Pusey stole home.
  • Pleasants picked up the win after going the first six innings in the circle with seven strikeouts. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, and a walk. Kiley Myers earned the save with a 1-2-3 seventh that included two strikeouts.
 
Game Two
  • Marist scored twice in the top of the first. Pusey led off the game with a single, and Miah McDonald followed with a double. Pleasants' single then brought both Pusey and McDonald home.
  • The Red Foxes added another run in the fourth. Ahr led off with a walk, went to second on a sacrifice by Alyssa Grupp, and then scored on an error off the bat of Rowan Drew.
  • With two RBIs in this game, Pleasants drove in four runs on the day.
  • Myers tossed the ninth shutout of her career. She struck out five, didn't walk anyone, and scattered six hits.
