Marist Sweeps Quinnipiac in Opening MAAC Weekend

Red Foxes Roll to 14-0 Win over Bobcats

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist softball capped its opening homestand with a five-inning 14-0 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday. The Red Foxes swept the Bobcats this weekend, winning their first three conference games of the 2024 season.
 
Summary
  • Marist opened the scoring in the first inning. Peyton Pusey and Miah McDonald hit a pair of singles, with Pusey scoring the Red Foxes' first run on a fielding error. 
  • After a Maddie Pleasants walk, Haley Ahr hit a three-run homer to right field, putting Marist up 4-0.
  • Marist poured on six runs in the bottom of the second inning.  McDonald reached base on a one-out double, scoring on a Pleasants RBI single. Isabella Manory and Anna Sidlowski added two RBI singles in the inning, scoring Ahr and Alyssa Grupp.
  • With two outs in the inning, Quinnipiac replaced starting pitcher Sydney Horan with Jaclyn Gonzalez. Ronni Howard responded with a three-run home run.
  • The Red Foxes showed no mercy in the third inning. Pusey opened up the inning with a single and scored on a McDonald two-run home run. Taylor Anderson continued the inning with a walk, later scoring on a Quinnipiac fielding error which put Marist ahead 13-0.
  • Kaitlyn Husic added her name to the Marist run column with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning.
  • After Kiley Myers allowed just one hit in the first four innings, Isabella Milazzo finished the game by striking out the side in the top of the fifth.
 
Stats
  • Myers recorded her ninth win on the season, pitching four scoreless innings and giving up just one hit. Myers struck out three, walked one, and got through her outing with just 46 pitches.
  • Myers and Isabella Milazzo combined for the shutout. Milazzo struck out the side on 13 pitches in the fifth.
  • McDonald led the Marist offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs on the day.
  • Ahr and Howard each recorded three RBIs.
  • Seven Marist players recorded RBIs (Ahr, Howard, Husic, McDonald, Manory, Pleasants and Sidlowski).
  • The Red Foxes finished with 13 hits on the day.
 
Notes
  • McDonald recorded her eighth home run on the season, a career high. She has homered in her last two games, and went 6-for-9 with six runs scored and four RBIs in the series.
  • In the three games this weekend, Marist pitchers allowed just nine hits, two walks, and one run in 19 innings while striking out 12.
  • Howard homered twice and drove in seven runs in the series.
 
Up Next
  • Marist heads north this weekend for a three-game series at Niagara. The teams will play a Friday doubleheader, and a single game on Saturday.
  • First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m. on Friday.
