Softball Splits Friday Doubleheader at Niagara

Sidlowski Earns 10th Win in Game Two

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, New York - The Marist softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Niagara on Friday. The Purple Eagles won the first game, 7-5, but the Red Foxes bounced back for a 3-2 triumph in game two.
 
Game One
  • Neither team had a hit until Sophia Recrosio's infield single in the top of the third.
  • Niagara scored first in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by Brianna Delaney.
  • The Red Foxes added three in the top of the fourth. Maddie Pleasants drew a leadoff walk, and Haley Ahr followed with a two-run homer. Alyssa Grupp then singled, advanced to second on an error, stole third, and scored on a bunt single by Anna Sidlowski.
  • Niagara tied it in the fifth when Lindsay Mayo came home on Sophia Marrero's single.
  • The Purple Eagles then scored four in the sixth, which included a two-run homer from Bridget Delaney. All four runs were unearned.
  • Marist rallied back in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles from Pleasants and Ahr. The Red Foxes had the potential go-ahead run on base, but were unable to push any more across.
  • Ahr finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Grupp also had two hits.
  • Kiley Myers pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.
 
Game Two
  • Pleasants' sacrifice fly brought home Miah McDonald with the game's first run in the top of the first.
  • Niagara tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Delaney.
  • Marist answered in the fourth as Grupp's RBI single brought home Sidlowski.
  • McDonald led off the sixth with a triple, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ahr.
  • Delaney's solo homer cut Marist's lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
  • With the potential winning run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, Sidlowski ended the game by getting a called strike three.
  • McDonald finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Sidlowski went the distance for her 10th win of the season. She scattered seven hits, struck out five, and walked just one as she needed just 93 pitches to get through seven innings.
 
Records
  • Marist is 22-9 overall and 4-1 in the MAAC.
  • Niagara is 10-12 this season and 3-2 in conference play.

  • Marist and Niagara will conclude their three-game series on Saturday.
