Women’s Lacrosse Improves to 2-0 in MAAC Play

Trotta Scores Six, Schrader Gets Game-Winner in 13-12 Triumph

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women's lacrosse team defeated Quinnipiac by a score of 13-12 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Tenney Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Summary
First Quarter
  • Kerri Gutenberger scored the first goal of the contest just 32 seconds in, followed by one from Olivia Arntsen at the 1:15 mark.
  • After a Quinnipiac goal, the Red Foxes answered with three in a row from Chloe Birckhead, Gutenberger, and Kelly Trotta to build a 5-1 advantage at 4:27.
  • Trotta added her second of the quarter with 2:03 remaining, and Marist led 6-2 after 15 minutes.
 
Second Quarter
  • Quinnipiac scored the first two goals of the quarter, but Marist received goals from Gabby Kingston and Trotta 58 seconds apart.
  • Three straight Quinnipiac goals brought the Bobcats to within one with 2:45 left in the quarter.
  • Trotta's fourth goal gave Marist a 9-7 lead with 23 seconds remaining, but Amy Nicoloff's goal beat the buzzer to bring the Bobcats within one at the half.
 
Third Quarter
  • There were no goals the first 11:15 of the quarter until Cate Bendowski tied the score with 3:45 remaining. However, Trotta answered with back-to-back goals – her fifth and sixth of the contest – in a 58-second span to give Marist back the lead.
  • The Red Foxes led 11-10 after 45 minutes.
 
Fourth Quarter
  • Quinnipiac scored the first two goals of the quarter to take its first lead at 12-11 with 8:52 to go.
  • Gutenberger's third goal of the contest tied the score with 4:06 left.
  • Maddie Schrader's free position goal gave Marist a 13-12 lead with 3:05 remaining, which proved to be the game winner.
