Softball Drops Two to Lehigh

Husic, Morrell Homer in Second Game

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Lehigh on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks prevailed 5-0 in game one and 12-5 in game two.
 
Game One
  • Lehigh scored all of the game's runs in fifth inning. Holly Lovett and Julia Mrochko delivered back-to-back two-run hits.
  • Four of Lehigh's runs in the sixth were unearned.
  • Maddie Pleasants started and went the first six innings. She struck out four and did not walk anyone. Pleasants also had two of Marist's three hits.
  • Katelyn Young went the distance for Lehigh and struck out four.
 
Game Two
  • Lehigh scored twice in the top of the first, but Kaitlyn Husic cut the Red Foxes' deficit in half with a homer in the bottom half of the inning.
  • The Mountain Hawks then scored six in the top of the fourth, as 11 Lehigh hitters came to the plate.
  • Lehigh ran its lead to 9-1 in the top of the fifth, but the Red Foxes avoided the mercy rule when Pleasants' RBI single brought home Maddie Gore.
  • Lehigh tacked on three more in the top of the sixth, but the Red Foxes avoided the mercy rule again when Lauren Morrell belted a three-run homer.
  • Morrell finished 3-for-3 with thee RBIs.
  • Rowan Drew went 2-for-3, and Maddie Gore scored two runs.
  • Gracie Smith went 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Lehigh.
 
Records
  • Lehigh is now 22-14.
  • Marist stands at 26-13.
 
Up Next
  • Marist returns to action next weekend with a three-game home series against Iona.
  • The Red Foxes and Gaels will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20, followed by a single game on Sunday, April 21.
  • First pitch both days is set for noon.
