Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Iona

McDonald Homers Twice, Pleasants Tosses Two-Hitter in Game One

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist softball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Iona on Saturday at home. The Red Foxes won the first game, 6-2, and the Gaels won the second game, 1-0, in 10 innings.  
 
Game One
  • Iona opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a two-run homer by Jamie Sheeran to lead 2-0.
  • The Red Foxes tied the game in the bottom of the first inning on Miah McDonald's two-run homer to center field, which brought Peyton Pusey home.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Pusey led off with a double and McDonald hit another two-run homer to extend the Marist lead to 4-2.
  • The Red Foxes tallied two more runs in the bottom of the fourth from Pusey's single, allowing Ronni Howard and Taylor Anderson to reach home, making the score 6-2.
  • Maddie Pleasants pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts and only gave up two hits to earn her fourth win of the season.
  • Pusey and McDonald both went 3-for-3 at the plate with three hits a piece.
  • McDonald reached 14 home runs on the season.
 
Game Two
  • Iona ended the scoring drought in the top of the 10th inning with a solo home run to lead 1-0.
  • Kiley Myers pitched all 10 innings for the longest outing in her career. Myers gave up just three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
  • Haley Ahr led the team with three hits, all being singles.
  • Alyssa Grupp had a single, walk, and sacrifice bunt.
  • Marist left 13 on base, while Iona left two on. 
  • This was Marist's longest game of the season.
Records
  • Marist is now 27-14 overall and 9-4 in conference play.
  • Iona is 14-22 this year and 11-6 in the MAAC.
 
Up Next
  • Marist stays home to face Iona on Sunday for the third and final matchup of the series.
  • First pitch is scheduled for noon.
