Marist Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep at Saint Peter’s

McDonald Sets Program’s Single-Season Record for RBIs, Pleasants Homers in Each Game

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – The Marist softball team earned a doubleheader sweep at Saint Peter's on Tuesday.
 
The Red Foxes prevailed in game one by a score of 8-0 in five innings. In game two, Marist rebounded from a six-run deficit in the fifth inning for a 12-8 triumph.
 
In game two, Miah McDonald set the program's single-season record for RBIs with 56. This milestone came on her 15th home run of the season, which tied the program record for a single season.
 
Game One
  • The Red Foxes scored twice in the top of the first. Peyton Pusey led off the game with a single. After Miah McDonald singled, Pusey was able to score the game's first run on an error.
  • Haley Ahr followed with a single to bring home McDonald.
  • Pusey's three-run homer in the third gave Marist a 5-0, and Pleasants' RBI double plated Ahr later in the inning.
  • Ahr's sacrifice fly brought home Pusey, and Marist's lead reached 7-0 in the fourth.
  • Pleasants followed with a solo homer to give Marist an 8-0 lead.
  • Kiley Myers made the lead stand up with a two-hitter. She struck out three, walked no one, and needed just 59 pitches over five innings.
  • Pusey went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Ahr and Pleasants each had two hits and RBIs.
 
Game Two
  • Saint Peter's led 6-0 through three, but Samantha Rogers got Marist on the board with a two-run homer in the fourth, which also brought home Alyssa Grupp.
  • However, Jess Forte's two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth gave the Peacocks a six-run lead back.
  • Marist cut its deficit in half in the fifth. Grupp's two-run double brought home Ahr and Pusey. Sophia Recrosio followed with a double to bring in Grupp.
  • Marist took its first lead with a four-run sixth. McDonald's two-run triple brought in Pusey and Howard, which brought Marist to within one. Pleasants' two-run homer then staked Marist to a 9-8 lead. This home run also put Pleasants over 100 RBIs for her career (101).
  • Pusey's seventh-inning double scored Howard and made the score 10-8. McDonald then accounted for the game's final runs with a two-run homer.
  • McDonald went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Ahr and Grupp had three hits apiece. Grupp went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Pusey scored three runs.
  • Rogers went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Pleasants (6-5) went the first five innings for the win. Myers pitched two scoreless frames for her third save.
  • Cara McNulty went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a double for Saint Peter's.
 
Records
  • Marist is 30-14 overall and 12-4 in the MAAC.
  • Saint Peter's is 15-28 overall and 5-12 in the MAAC.
