Softball Takes Down Mount St. Mary’s, Captures Series

Red Foxes Pound Out 12 Hits in 10-3 Victory

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Softball captured the rubber game on Sunday, taking its series over conference opponent Mount St. Mary's in a 10-3 victory at Gartland Field. The Red Foxes won two of three this weekend and improved to 7-2 in conference play.
 
Summary
  • The Mountaineers opened up the scoring with a two-run home run by Tori Bowles in the top of the first.
  • The Red Foxes responded immediately in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs. Miah McDonald and Peyton Pusey scored on a Maddie Pleasants double to right, Pleasants then reached home on a wild pitch. In her first start of the series, Taylor Anderson secured an RBI single to first, scoring Alyssa Grupp.
  • Mount St. Mary's made it a one-run game in the top of the fourth on a fielder's choice. Marist once again responded with assurance, scoring six runs in the bottom of the 4th.
  • Anderson scored on an error, and Miah McDonald scored two on a one-out double. McDonald then reached home on a Pleasants RBI single. Haley Ahr capped the inning off with a two-run homer, which brought home pinch-runner Lauren Morrell and put the Red Foxes up 10-3.
  • The bottom of the fourth closed out the scoring, as Kiley Myers kept the Mount off the scoreboard in the last three innings.
 
Stats
  • Myers recorded her 11th win on the season, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts and just five hits allowed. Myers recorded her 300th career strikeout in the contest.
  • Pleasants led the Marist offense, going 2-4 with three RBIs on the day.
  • Miah McDonald and Haley Ahr each recorded two RBIs.
  • 9 Marist players recorded hits on the day (Ahr, Anderson, Grupp, Ronni Howard, McDonald, Pleasants, Pusey, Sophia Recrosio, and Samantha Rogers).
  • The Red Foxes finished with 12 hits on the day.

  • Marist is now 25-10 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
  • Mount St. Mary's is 7-21 this year and 1-7 in the MAAC.
